The Odyssey: Breadbox Edition: Book Two

Nov 09, 2005 14:47

I'm sorry this took so long, and I promise it won't happen again. I got caught up writing a fanfiction for a friend (a real one, with plot and everything!), and this got pushed aside. I'm not going to be waiting a month to finish parts from now on, because this would go on for two years.

Yup, you're the first! Congrats.

Antinous is such a clueless dick.

Woohoo! An update! Hermes was always one of my favorite Greek gods. You just get the feeling that he always wins bets and the like(and Ares never wins anything because he is the dumb jock of war). And go Athena! Way to use your gray matter and actually get the plot moving. And is Zeus going senile or something? Or was he always like that(that being a god who is too busy chasing skirts to do godlike things)?

I always assume Hermes wins, especially against Ares. Though, he might meet his match in Athena, who is just as clever as him.

Zeus must be senile. Womanizing, turning into animals to seduce women, having children pop out of his head/thigh...it must take its toll.

The way it works I think Athena=wise and probably the smartest deity in Olympus, Hermes=clever and just plain lucky to boot. Hestia is my favorite goddess, though. She is obviously the most generous and self-sacrificing of the gods, and I admire that. Hell, she even gave up her heavenly chair for Dionysis(like Hephaetsus couldn't knock out another one, him being the craftsman of the gods and all) to sit by the hearth and tend the eternal flame of Olympus. If that isn't extreme generosity, I don't know what is. A great line for her would be something like "I'm the only deity with enough sense to not get involved in this entire Odysseus mess, except for that drunkard Dionysis." If you did use it(or refined it in some way) I would be honored.

Hestia was always a little too self-effacing for my tastes, but at least she doesn't go around doing stupid things and just actually tries to make people happier.

It's a good bit for Hestia, but would probably work better in "The Iliad." The gods aren't quite as present in this story (other than Athena, but only when she's being sneaky).

“Wow, this must be one nice shroud,”

Wow. That struck me as amazingly funny. Like, almost rolling off my chair funny.

I'd forgotten how much of an idiot Telemachus is. Silly, silly boy.

If it took four years to make, I'd hope it would be one nice shroud.

Telemachus is a silly, silly boy. Good thing he has Athena there to be his male role model.

Somehow, I don't think even an act of goddess could help Telemachus. Both of his parents are smart people. What went wrong with him?

Well, he did pretty much get raised in a household full of feasting, drunken idiots.

Whoops. Sorry about killing you with puns. There's something I don't want on my coroner's report.
