Chase looked at Foreman tiredly. "Well done, Foreman. Next time just test for the shit, okay? Especially if it's just bloods. Still, we all got thrown on the wrong path thinking it was one illness."

He took a crumpled piece of paper from his pocket and unfolded it. "Keep thinking outside the box, but I don't think it's going to hurt to focus the environmental factor of the desert environment he was in for months before he went AWOL from service. He died seven or so weeks after the date he ended up on the island, and he started getting sick just over two weeks ago... now. I think it's linked, but I think whatever we have been dosing him with has prolonged the death. Something he wouldn't have probably presented to an infirmary in Iraq to be given. I also think that if he was symptomatic of this during fighting, he wouldn't haven taken any notice like he did here. Dust, dirt, fumes, chemicals. He could have been coughing his guts up and had any number of excuses to cover it. Nausea could have been written off to dehydration. Fever, to ( ... )

Amber was scared. She hadn't let herself admit to it until now, but she was. The prospect her friend could die was very real and in the face of the team bitching over his diagnosis, her patience was wearing thin. She stood up. "Tell me what we're testing for first," she said. It's not like she had anything further to offer in the differential anyway.

Cameron closed her notes over and stood up too. "I'm surprised you haven't been trying to chat the girlfriend up to get her to change her mind," she said to House, eyebrow raised. "Maybe we should take another lung biopsy now the symptoms have progressed so dramatically?"

"Well, he's got a trachy in now, it's not like there is much risk he'll start coughing or seizing in the middle of this one. The seizures haven't increased." Foreman rose too, glancing between House and Chase for some sort of direction, if they could agree, that is. He had to agree with Chase on this one. He just wasn't going to verbalise that for a second time in fifteen minutes. No need to overkill.

"And he can't handle another crash. We do a biopsy, our time will go from 67 hours to zero in a split second. I'm all for taking risks, you all know that, but I'm not all for killing the goddamn patient." House's mind was reeling, his irritation obvious. "If we had the means to test all of these in a different way, then what the fuck are we doing here in the first place ( ... )

Chase stared at the whiteboard, a deep frown on his forehead. The end of the pen was in his mouth as he tried to tune everyone in the room out for just a few moments. "Four," he confirmed quietly, eyes flicking over the list on the board. "Legionellosis, GAE, GBM, and Nocardiosis."

Amber stayed standing and crossed her arms. "I think Nocardiosis, Legionellosis, GAE and Sporotrichosis... if we can even get results from a forth test."

"I agree with what Foreman said earlier. The lack of rash on the arms and legs has got to be important, in some way. I think testing for Nocardiosis is pointless. Legionellosis, GAE, Sporotrichosis, and GBM," was Cameron's choice, even though her tone indicating no real strength in the reasoning. Whatever was decided, something was going to not be tested and the way their luck was running, that's what would be picked.

Foreman shrugged and dropped his pen onto the notepad to hold his hand up. "I'm with Cameron. I'd go GAE first, though, because he's already tested positive for Meningitis. Legionellosis symptoms fit the best, so I'd go that second, then GBM and Sporotrichosis."

House circled the unanimous Legionellosis and GAE, and struck out Hib and Aspergillosis. Now they were getting somewhere.

"Legionellosis, GAE, Sporotrichosis, and GBM fit the best," he voiced. "Four votes for Sporotrichosis, four for GBM, three for Nocardiosis. No rash on the extremities means a no for Nocardiosis. Anyone think of a reason to not include Sporotrichosis or GBM? No?" He tilted his head in the direction of the door. "Get going. I'll be down to hear the results in two hours."
