STRESS!!

This morning started pretty badly. I had plenty of sleep last night, but as I was getting ready for work, I started getting stressed and anxious. I intended to leave by 9:30, but by 9, I was almost in tears. I was a bit concerned about why I didn't want to go and went online to see if Josh was also on and if I could go "AGH!" at him. He was and I ( Read more... )

Yikes. I'm sorry. You do sound stressed :(
Failing units would be stressful. I remember when I was back at uni.

Hmm, if your stress keeps up, maybe it'd help to speak to someone professional? :/ Just a thought. It's helped me in the past :)
*hugs*

That might be a good idea. I've gone to see a psych when things have gotten too much and it really helped me to face the issues I was dealing with.

If it keeps up, I should see someone. But I definitely feel better about uni work after getting 4hrs done this afternoon :)

The biggest reasons why stress occurs is because we think we won't be successful at what we need to do. So to combat this, the best thing you can do for yourself and your work is to break things up into smaller tasks. The essay can be broken up into research/quotes/paragraphs/references/proofing etc. Write these steps down on a piece of paper, and only focus on one step at a time. That way, it's not a WHOLE essay that you need to do, but only researching the topic.... then constructing an answer to the question.... then a brainstorm... etc.

It's a proven strategy :) I've done it all my life. Human beings can only do so much at one time, and if you break it up into things you CAN handle, then you will handle them.

Don't forget a reward at the end. Positive reinforcement is key!

I tend to do that, only different smaller chunks:
research/reading, reading very carefully through the assignment guide, comprehensive essay plan, first draft.

If I haven't done any of the tasks required, then I get stressed and the past few days have been a bit busy to get any work done. Until this afternoon!

And then I had half kitkat at the end!

Yeah, a lot of negative things are like that (emotions). You're aware that it's negative and that it affects you negatively, which makes you worry about it which is another negative thing on top of it...

Find someone who will help you along when you've got an assignment due and feel too stressed to do it. I get it a lot and I think it's usually a combination of forcing myself not to leave my computer and having my husband there encouraging me to do it that gets me through.

Aww sorry to hear about your stress. Hope you feel better soon. Stress was like the main reason why i quit the hospitality industry. I can understand how a job like yours would be stressful and ignoring uni work cos u feel overwhelmed
