For furries: why the Bernal hate?

Sep 09, 2009 09:08

For a few years now, every time I see the name of Jeremy Bernal mentioned online, it's typically either preceded or followed by curses and denunciations.

Why?Because the man defends his artwork? Because he will use lawyers to force art thieves to stop ripping him off? Because he doesn't give it away for nothing? Or is there something else that ( Read more... )

furries, furry art, furry artists, furry fandom

Dunno, I personally like and get along with Bernal. You already answered your own question. He defends his copyright rights vigorously, and he understands and will not hesitate using the law in defending having control over his material. Many furries hate this, mainly because many furries have an entitlement mentality. They believe they deserve free art to download, upload distribute, and perhaps even sell (that last part showing vagrant hypocrisy ( ... )

I've seen that, sadly (the entitlement syndrome). Though I've heard that anime fandom is several orders of magnitude worse when it comes to theft.

And yes, the stealing makes little sense to me. Even less so when they try to print and sell it.

Because furtards want their pr0ns for free. They don't want to pay for their wank material. :/

Years ago, Merlino used to rant against artists who *gasp* charged for their work, and would wax fond for 'the days when artists did art for free'.
Not sure if he's changed positions on that.

Good on Bernal for defending his rights and his livelihood.

Ditto to what Xian said.

That is possibly the funniest damn thing I've ever heard you say.

I know, and I agree, but I can't understand why this seems to arcane to others. Doesn't everyone want to defend something if they worked to create it?

As I've seen, not only in the art community, but even in my long retail career, people want freebies and think they deserve them always.

Oh man -- you want to see 'retail freebies', you should see the shrink the local Halloween stores get. Five-finger discounts galore!

A) Who is Bernal?
B) Who is Sibe?

Jeremy Bernal is a talented artist who owns SexyFur.com. He is very VERY strict about people posting his work the imageboards (like on the chans, LULZ, etc), and he defends his copyright like woah. I like that he does that; I've purchased a pass from SexyFur, and it was *really* good quality work.

Sibe is like, the polar opposite of Bernal.

http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Sibe (possibly NSFW, since it IS ED) There used to be more on his ED page, but it looks like it's been bawwwwleted. :( Sibe is also notorious for doing a lot of really awful things to fellow furs.

Really? How? I've tried buying a brief membership with a prepaid debit card, but it didn't work.

And I agree about his level of quality. Even if you don't like erotica, his skill is breath-taking.

Yeah, I'm not sure how prepaid debit cards work. What about PayPal? I think he accepts that.

SexyFur was *well* worth the money, if you ask me. There were a virtual TON of images... some by other artists, and some of which I didn't care for, but holy crap, NICE works. o_O Even the fetishy stuff (that I don't normally go for) was beautiful.
