For furries: why the Bernal hate?

For a few years now, every time I see the name of Jeremy Bernal mentioned online, it's typically either preceded or followed by curses and denunciations.

Why?Because the man defends his artwork? Because he will use lawyers to force art thieves to stop ripping him off? Because he doesn't give it away for nothing? Or is there something else that ( Read more... )

From looking into the matter I'd offer an alternative to whats been said here. About 1/2 of it is indeed furries wanting their pronz for free. The other 1/2 is butthurt artists on a "How dare you reject my application??!1??!" kick.

And last I checked, Terrie Smith and Michelle Light were also pretty strict about protecting their art (I have never seen a full size Terrie Smith scan on the net that she actually uploaded) yet they don't seem to get the same hate that Jeremy Bernal does.

Neither of them have hit the art pirates with lawsuits, either. Mister Bernal has, or so I understand.

If it makes you feel any better, my mom welds "cowboy" type useful stuff, mostly out of horse shoes; she also does leather work; people do this with relatively main-stream custom crafts, too.

Folks will complain for AGES about being charged five bucks over the bare material cost of the item-- no man hours, cost of packing the stuff in, nothing.

My understanding is, the way S&M used to scam people, he deserved to get a bad name.
