Not all Elves are nice...

I posted this idea elsewere, and was surprised to see how many people like it. Maybe some of you here can give me some input on what you think of it:

Something I've long wanted to do with high fantasy elves/Fair Folk was to use them in a story along with humans and the classic mindlessly violent and destructive orcs. And I also want to use the old ( Read more... )

Good idea. The trick is in turning it into a story. Does it start when the truth has just been learned?

If you need a critique of the story when written, just ask.

My original idea was to build up the The Reveal as the climax. Make it look like a "normal" fantasy world, aside from a few odd and unsettling elements, and then we find out at the end what's really been happening.

I had also figured on having the person who learns be a woman who lost her infant years ago, supposedly to the orcs, and then discovers somethign awful about the one she just slew in battle.

She sounds like an excellent choice, since she's the person with the most to loose, who will feel the cost of the truth most deeply.

Still, that leaves us with the question of what happens after the Reveal. You can have a great short story here, but the better it is, the more it might beg you to write the novel. Just a warning. It's happened to me.
