I saw the Rankin-Bass version of The Hobbit as a kid; that lead to the novel; and now we have the above to look forward to. Smaug was THE dragon as I grew up and I am so looking forward to finally hearing his voice!

More sad news to all lovers of classic horror and fantasy -- Richard Matheson, author of 'I Am Legend' has just died. I can't even begin to list a fraction of the work this man did. Sad news here for any old school SF and fantasy fans: Jack Vance just died.

And now I'm wondering how many people reading this are going, "Who?"

Just got some very sad news -- Fantasy/Horror/SF great Ray Bradbury has just died at the age of 91.

Warning, it's a MLP fanfic story at the link in case you don't like that. But this is a well-done story, and just long enough to get the point across. I can think of some 'real' novels in bookstores that can't manage that.
