Work today was a WHIRLWIND; I'm still trying to recover. But I... kind of loved it? My old position is already a distant memory, and for that I'm surprisingly grateful. The lethargy is gone. I don't just feel like a cog in the wheel anymore. Always a plus ( Read more... )

I have to say... it makes me crazy homesick for The X-Files.
There are a lot of XF alumni involved.

Glad you're liking Supernatural so far! It gets better and better as it develops its mythology. And, yeah, the second season of Pushing Daisies was so very good.

Yes! I noticed David Nutter and Kim Manners' names popping up. Made me happy. :)

I'm excited to see how the show develops, but even these early episodes are fun on their own merits. (Especially with the running commentary of four people.) It's kind of nice delving into a show with so many seasons to watch - I'm used to pretty short episode counts these days.

(P.S. - Sorry I can't give "official word" yet on the visit - haven't been able to get a hold of our suspect for weeks, due to possible dramallama. :/ I am more than a little annoyed. Want to have this thing set in stone already!)

Me too! And we can totally watch some SPN when I'm there!

I like Supernatural a lot, but the first season was a tough slog. The first season's through line was just not enough to justify anything. There was no mystery that couldn't have been solved by John Winchester PICKING UP THE DAMNED PHONE. Later seasons developed better because they had actual mysteries that didn't depend on the two brothers just kicking around waiting on Daddy.

I feel you on missing the Files watching it though. Again, after season one, it felt like less of that. It became more its own show, though the monsters of the week were still as plentiful as ever. The arc of each season became more pronounced, so you got an idea that things were leading to a specific climax and denouement and that each episode got you closer to that in some way. Seasons 2-3 especially did that.

As for the lack of female characters...yeah, that is just never going to get better. I dunno what it is about the fans or the creators or what, but they have never gotten a recurring female character on the show who wasn't written off in one way or ( ... )

It's so interesting, having heard about people's gripes with this show (and their love in spite of their gripes) for so long, to finally be piecing things together for myself. Yeah, I expected this first season to be the way it is, and had to convince Luke that it gets more complex later - he's enjoying it but is always a more wary (and less patient) viewer than me.

I'm seriously bummed that the show remains so male-centric (and how weird about the black chars! wts?), but I guess I can deal - I mean, I'm a fan of Nolan's Batfilms for heaven's sake, and the testosterone in that series is overwhelming! But ye gods, is it really so hard to develop one or two kickass women to even things out? I'm sure both guys and girls in the viewing population would benefit. Well, certain girls. I am disturbed by the large segment of fandom that wants to protect their slash canon from female intrusion. :/ I like having girl-heroes, tyvm.

Jensen Ackles was the best thing about Dark Angel S2, so I was excited to see him in this. Our peanut gallery is ( ... )

I'm not having a lot of luck convincing people to watch shows I like! Then again, it's because I'm being too honest about how flawed they are. I tried to tell my friend that Farscape was good first season but got way better as it went along. She's unconvinced. Then again, she also turned her nose up at Dexter and to date no one else in the entire internet has...

But ye gods, is it really so hard to develop one or two kickass women to even things out?

It really seems to be, for this show. There are maybe four recurring female characters. Of the four, one was awesome, one was just kind of sad and pathetic, and the other two were...yeah, not favorites. I shied clear of reading what fandom thought, but I still got enough via osmosis to be a little creeped out.

Also, I still haven't watched the last four episodes of Pushing Daisies because I can't bear for it to be over. Maybe when the comics come out, I can handle it.

Ooh, there'll be comics? That's some consolation, I suppose. Yeah, we're taking things slow - partly to savor it and partly because each episode just feels so complete in and of itself. Unlike most shows, the eps don't blend together, they each stand out with their own personality... it feels somehow wrong to race through them in a blur.

You ventured out on black Friday and don't have any horror stories to tell?! heh.

My husband watches Castle, so I sort of half-watch it when I'm sitting there. It seems like a pleasant show, but hasn't sucked me in. I was shocked when Pushing Daisies actually got a second season. It's an amazing show, but so quirky that I never expected it to find much of an audience. So sad it got cut after that, though. Supernatural is one I've never watched at all and don't think I ever will for both reason a. and b.

I think for me, Fringe and Sanctuary are as close as I get to TV happy these days. Actually, Dexter might be my favorite current show. Oh, I backtracked to The Wire recently and I'm into season 2 already. That's pretty freaking good.

We're pushing forward with the TSCC campaign in January, BTW. Once the Terminator rights are auctioned, things could start happening.

Fringe and Sanctuary are both high up on my backlog of shows-to-watch. And I keep hearing about The Wire from everybody! At first glance, it doesn't look like my kind of show, but after all the raves about it from people whose taste I respect, I know I'll be checking it out eventually.

Good to hear about the TSCC campaign - I am practically biting my nails over here waiting to see what happens with the T-rights. I don't think there's a franchise I'm closer to. If it fizzles out and dies because of the black sheep that is Terminator Salvation I will cry. And then rage. Lots.
