Work today was a WHIRLWIND; I'm still trying to recover. But I... kind of loved it? My old position is already a distant memory, and for that I'm surprisingly grateful. The lethargy is gone. I don't just feel like a cog in the wheel anymore. Always a plus!
Thanksgiving was excellent, as were the days that followed. I couldn't have asked for more from a four-day weekend. My mom and I hit the streets of Pasadena on Black Friday, expecting to dodge crowds and traffic left and right, but shockingly, encountered neither! Of course, we weren't venturing near the malls - just hit up our favorite specialty stores and gift shops from years of tradition. Tres awesome.
Saturday, Luke and I got out all our Christmas decor and spent the day with Bing Crosby. Our tree is such a lovely sight whenever I walk in the door. Sokka was deathly quiet the whole time we put it up, and kept fleeing when we tried to place him on a branch. I think it's too much shiny for his delicate sensibilities.
Happily enough, we've found time to watch TV again! Nothing current (I think I'm doomed to catch up via DVD for the rest of my life). But we're digging into the second season of Pushing Daisies, which is even better than the first and so astonishingly well-produced I honestly can fathom why it was cancelled: it must've been crazy expensive to make.
Then there's S1 of Castle, which is so typical but so fun. It goes very well with dinner. Luke's mancrush on Nathan Fillion is equal to my girlcrush, so a lot of laughter goes around. And I just adore the girl that plays Castle's daughter. (Stana Katic's pretty cool, too.)
Finally, we watched the first four episodes of Supernatural last night. A good friend lent me S1 and S2; I've been putting off this show for awhile because a) the fandom is terrifying, and b) it has no strong female lead. I honestly can't think of a show I love that doesn't at least have an attempt at a strong femme in the spotlight. However, I tend to like things Richard Hatem is involved with (The Mothman Prophecies, Miracles), and a scary number of people I know love the show (including my favorite English professor from college! wot?), so. Here I am! I got Luke to watch it with me by failing to mention that it's a CW/WB show, and now he and my two neighbors (who came over right as the pilot started) are declaring it our new "communal" show. I'm having fun, but I have to say... it makes me crazy homesick for The X-Files.
I've also been reading a ton - have an incredible stack of brain food going - but I think that's for another post.
Kauai in four days. Why yes, I am excited.
