Second snowfall

Oct 27, 2013 21:42

It snowed again today, much to the aggravation of many. The weather forecasts had called for cold temperatures, but there was no precipitation in the forecast until 24 hours before it hit. At least we got some warning, but we were in a mad rush to get last-minute things done before it came. Thankfully, there doesn't seem to be quite as much ( Read more... )

We had almost a full week to get ready, so we got a lot of work done. A lot of boards replaced on the fences, driveway markers installed, eave troughs cleaned, lawn umbrellas put into storage, and so on. We got just under 5 inches of wet snow which is great for the trees and fields, but it is cold. Horses blanketed, etc. My winter supply of baled hay hasn't arrived yet, but is promised. It is too bad that you were not able to get your own hay off, because that is one of the reasons you bought a farm! Today I am getting the pay cheques ready for my hired man and the Receiver General. Do some Safeway shopping, and maybe coffee at Guy's. Roads are icy. Wish you were here.

Icy roads were another part of the fun; I wanted to go to Swift Current to get some needed supplies, but only about 10 miles north of town the temperature was cool enough (and enough driving winds) that the highway was icing over. I decided that there was nothing I needed that couldn't wait another couple of days for the warmer weather to return and make for safer driving, so I turned around and went home.

The biggest plan that this unexpected snowfall ruined was cutting up a bunch of deadfall for firewood. We have a good amount of firewood already, but we had dragged several large limbs to the house to be cut up, and now they're in the way. Hopefully the weather will improve long enough for us to get them cut up and out of the way.

I was thinking of you the other day when I saw a TV commercial for a cordless chain saw that looked quite powerful. I have two good chain saws here, but my hired man seems to have a lot of trouble making them start. You can probably hear him swearing all the way to Shaunavon! Do you plan to carry them? Would they work for easy jobs like trimming trees, cutting up deadfall, repairing paddock boards, etc? I am really interested, although they may cost too much.

I DO carry a line of electric (battery) powered saws, actually. The ones I carry are the Oregon "PowerNow" saws, which although costly, are an excellent product.

You can get more information from their website at https://oregoncordless.com/CA
