This winter has been even worse than last winter, though we haven't had a major blizzard like the one we had in January 2010.  (Knock on wood!)  Still, the sheer volume of snow has been ridiculous, piling up in the yard two or three feet deep, with drifts five feet deep or worse!  The following collection of pictures gives some idea of what we ( Read more... )

I was going to ask if you worry about the pony chewing on the christmas lights and then realized it's a self-correcting problem.

While they haven't done so here, back in Calgary PoohBear and Dirk chewed through a couple strings of Christmas lights, and two extension cords. Fortunately for them, they were all connected to GFI-Protected outlets so they didn't get zapped. Surprisingly though, the GFIs never tripped - how they didn't get zapped is beyond me.

The way I learned to put chains on is you'd tie one end to the wheel with a rope or bungie, then back onto them so they rolled around the tire instead of lifted all the way. But they have to be placed straight out or they'll get tweaked. But then you need to re-tighten them after a few hundred feet and every few, then tens, or miles anyhow.

I had to stop several times this afternoon to re-tighten the chains as they settled around the tires. The chains help a little, but I still have to watch that I don't start spinning the wheels, or I can dig myself in to a bad situation. :/
