The Return of the Frankenengine, and Now I'm Cooking with GAS!!

     Whuff...  What a week so far!

On Monday, I was about to head out to make a field-service call for the people I had rebuilt the Frankenengine for.  Apparently, they were having some problems getting it started, and from their description it sounded like the float-valve in the carburetor might have gotten stuck.  Just as I was about to head ( Read more... )

Looked up Magnetron ignition: very simple it is with one moving part, the magnet that both energizes and triggers the system.

And that one moving part is on the Flywheel, which is moving anyway. All modern engines use this system now, and it sure makes like a lot easier! The great thing is that the Magnetron coils are a direct-replacement part for the originals, so there's no muss or fuss involved with installing one. Just remove the old coil, pop on the Magnetron, attach the wires, and you're done! :)

They also come in various sizes for the different engines, and I've got several old 5HP roto-tiller engines that would make perfect go-kart engines once they're fitted with one.
