Horse Drop Off

Jul 26, 2009 12:43

I'm keeping my horse (Jake) and my loan horse (Rocket) a small 7 acre barn (6 stalls) that is owned by my friends parents. Today the owner Cindy texted me and said there was an extra horse in Field 3, where my two are turned out. This horse has no halter on, looks fat and happy, and is certainly owned by someone, however what worry's me is that it ( Read more... )

I would first contact animal control and see if they have a reasonable place to take the horse if you can't keep it there. If not and you're willing to keep it around for a while I'd put up posters *everywhere* horse people frequent with the horse's photo on it with a small reward if someone can definitively ID the horse. Its not exactly legal to just drop your horse off on someone else's property...

Hell, take the horse to the Fair and see if anyone wants it. I wouldn't just let them go home with the horse that day, but you could make arrangements for them to come try it out at your place and give you time to get a couple references if you want them.

I guess it all depends on whether or not you want to keep him :P I agree with the above poster, though: try to find his owner (if they aren't hiding :P) and then up for sale, I guess :\

Yeah we can't keep him, I can barely afford Jake (which is why he's for lease) and Cindy and Bob want sell the 2 horses that used to be their daughters.
I was thinking of taking him to Fair, but they're pretty strict on having vaccs and coggins and don't have extra stalls, so posters will have to suffice.

That REALLY sucks. I hope you can find a more worthy home for the poor thing.

I can not imagine the situation that made that horses owners do that, it could not have been easy.
They may have figured that your horses were happy and taken care of.
I am not condoning there actions but I would rather someone stick a horse in my pasture than let it free in the parks or take it to the knackers.

I would contact local rescue organizations (here's a list by state from my site: http://www.equinerescueleague.org/rescuesip.htm). Rescues often have information on local missing horses and/or can help you try to find them ( ... )

none of those are at all close to me unfortunately, but I'll still call them to see what they say. We've called the police, so if it turns out no one shows up for the horse we'll just see where we can go from there.
Thanks!

He's definately a Walker, we jogged him and he gaited, so no tattoo there :p
Hmm I think I might put him up there actually, I have pictures now.

we checked his teeth and upper lip though, no tattoo that I remember. I know me some Walkers :p Yeah I didn't even want to look, I think someone just dumped this dude, he's really sweet and nice. If we clear it with the police and no one claims him my friend said she'd take him anyways :p So he'll have a happy ending.
