I'm keeping my horse (Jake) and my loan horse (Rocket) a small 7 acre barn (6 stalls) that is owned by my friends parents. Today the owner Cindy texted me and said there was an extra horse in Field 3, where my two are turned out. This horse has no halter on, looks fat and happy, and is certainly owned by someone, however what worry's me is that it was IN the field.
I think someone might have "blessed" us with another horse because of the economy and such (it's been an issue around here, dropping off horses, letting them "free" in the parks, ect.)
Cindy has called the police and went to the neighbors behind us but no luck yet.
I'm writing to see if you guys have any advice on how to deal with this if it IS a drop off, (police obviously, but animal control? Our Fair is coming up, put the word out there?) and if any of you or your barns have had to deal with a horse being dropped off at your place? What did you do?
Any advice would be wonderful, I'm setting up a small paddock out of round pen panels today away from the other horses (even though he/she has already been exposed to my horses) because we know nothing about this horse.
Thank you guys!
::Update On Mystery Horse::
He's a really cute dark bay gelding, 15.2 hh prolly, pretty distinct markings, teeth look like 6-9 years old. Hes obviously been handled and possibly a riding horse, is really sweet and friendly. He us fat, and seems pretty well groomed. His feet need done, but he's only about 2-3 weeks overdue. Looks either part or full Walker, or possibly old stock Saddlebred. There was a halter that fit him that was none of our horses near the barn. It definately looks like someone came on the property, took off his halter, and let him loose =/. Hopefully we can find the owner, if not, we'll re-name the kid, and I'll ride him and offer him, for adoption in a couple days.
It's 4PM and the horse has been missing since EARLY this morning, no calls, no stops, and no ones contacted the police.
Poor guy looks to be nameless and homeless at this point =/
