Shipping Breyer Horses

Jun 04, 2009 11:52

I am about to divest of a very large number of Breyer model horses (need money, can't find enough work, you all know the story). I am a total newbie to the whole eBay world, but I am figuring things out (I think). Before I actually list them online, I wanted to make sure I have everything organized and I am trying to figure out how to safely mail ( Read more... )

I would suggest not using only packing peanuts as they can shift during packing and crush the horse. This happened to me once with a limited editon Breyer and I wasn't very happy lol. The ones I get are usually wrapped in bubble wrap and then packing peanuts to cushion the bubble wrap. Those arrive in perfect condition. Good luck on eBay! =]

I'm a Breyer collector (Have over 1400 models) and just wanted to warn you that right now the market is very down and you will have a hard time getting what you paid for anything.

If you'd like to save on eBay fees which are VERY high, you can try www.modelhorsesalespages.com its free or you can pay a nominal fee to be able to post photos on your ad.

As far as packing. Wrapping the model in bubblewrap and then some packing peanuts works well.

If you send me a list of your models I'd be more than happy to give you a general idea of what your models might go for currently.

Let me know if you need any help!

Also, you'll probably find that most collectors do not care about the boxes and will help save on shipping to have you exclude the box. I'd make sure you keep that as an option for people.

With model horses its actually better to have the model out of the box because people want to see both sides of the models.

This is only the case for models from 1990 till now.

Since all of the models had been opened at some point, I did take photos of the horses outside of the box from both sides...I felt like I was doing confo shots for forty-some tiny little horses (and it was much easier that real confo photo shoots!)

I will definately look into that model horse page...sounds like a good possibility. I know the market for most collectables aren't great right now, but my parents are looking to downsize and move out of their house. Since I am apartment bound, I don't have any storage space to move them out of their basement and into my own small living quarters.

And I'd love any help you could give me with pricing! I've been looking through eBay, but many of the models I have aren't listed and I can't figure out how to see items that were already sold. Do you have an email address I could send my list to?

Is that for paypal at all or just through eBay? I am hesitant to take checks or cash from people whom I don't know personally and would not ship the model until I had the cash in hand, which I know some people wouldn't like.

I've sold other things on eBay (Americal Girl stuff) and not a single person had a problem waiting for the check to clear before shipping.

I'm pretty sure you have to accept PayPal as an option now. I haven't sold anything in awhile, but the buzz in Nov/Dec was that you would not be allowed to accept checks & money orders at all very soon. Not sure when that goes into affect or if it already has.

eBay and PayPal are the same company, so you're really paying eBay Inc. double fees. They both suck.
