Can I just say how much I agree with all this?random00bJune 7 2011, 18:18:47 UTC
I paid $8 to see this the day after it was released and I walked out saying "that was just...no," and immediately placed XMen & XMen 2 DVDs on reserve at my local library.
It was slow and felt awkward and false at times, like the scene where Charles taps into that one memory of Erik's mother so he can move a satellite(?). WTH? I groaned out loud when I saw that. Let's not even get started on the dialogue or the clothing choices for the women? Good Lord!
Also, aside from McAvoy & Fassbender, who wasn't a bad choice for young Magneto--he at least has the body and look that signals the Magneto we see later, the casting choices were just wrong. January Jones? Zoe Kravitz? Really? Jennifer Lawrence was completely wasted; watch Winter's Bone, you'll see what she can do.
Overall, I did wonder if I should've seen Thor instead, because Chris Hemsworth is the pretty.
Random aside: if you haven't watched it yet, check out James McAvoy in Last King of Scotland.
agreement is ALWAYS WELCOMEepicflailerJune 9 2011, 14:44:04 UTC
i think i was willing to overlook the acting because i knew going in that it was going to be an action movie and realistically speaking i didn't think they'd go all out for grade-a actors. but i totally agree on the women's clothing choice score! it was RIDICULOUS/UNNECESSARY/JARRING/SO OUT OF PLACE/INSERT OTHER SYNONYMS OF CHOICE HERE.
also, i did hear that thor was awesome!
and re: last king of scotland, i really should, but it's so heavy, and i'm never in the mood for heavy films these days.
yayyy someone else who isn't all OMG 5 STARS about x-men. it was like, okay only, dunno why everyone's raving abt it. some parts so corny, and the dialogue... meh. what is this point between rage and serenity rubbish???
did not like them using real footage from the war even though yeh i get it, it's part of the time frame. still... all i got from there was that mayor quimby from the simpsons sounds exactly like JFK.
majorly dislike that butterfly chick, january jones's emma frost, kevin bacon (mmm bacon, haha), azazel looked like something out of hellboy, and im also pretty sure beast didnt turn blue thanks to mystique -- unless the movie didn't imply it and i'm reading it wrongly. in that case, oops.
but i really did like magneto/prof x haha. although sir ian will always be magneto!
and oops this is such a long comment, but nobody else wants to hear me rant about how NOT great it was.
the cartoon ftw i wish they had a rogue/gambit thing (and where rogue is NOT anna paquin).
i was SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY DISAPPOINTED STEPHI OMG. but i think the bigger a fan you are of the tv/comic series, the less you'll like this installment, idk. also i didn't realize they used real footage of the war! :/ dunno how i feel about that either. it just seemed stupid even as part of the timeline shit because they really didn't build the world/sets/wardrobe to reflect that at all. i honestly felt like it could've been set in the modern day, in some backward part of the uk. that just sucked.
AND YES YES YES ON AZAZEL OMG!!!!!!!!!! hahahaha. dunno about the beast canon but yeah, i was like eh over that bit too. and i DID like charles/erik i just didn't buy into the bff forever shit. like, eh, okay, they were friends for a while, whatever. it wasn't just them, i didn't buy any of the relationships between anyone. not the one between magneto/his torturer, or between mystique/charles. all the relationships just felt really flat and forced to me.
AND ROGUE/GAMBIT IS MY X-MEN OTP. along with jean/cyclops and storm/wolverine.
you make all these sweet, sweet promises but they are ALL LIES
YES I WILL READ IT, lol, probably over the weekend or something but i will. i don't have anything against the characters, just the movie. i do think that having sort of grown up with the series / having some kind of background knowledge makes a huge impact on how much enjoyment you can derive out of the movie fandom though, so DONUT HOLD IT AGAINST ME IF I DON'T LIKE IT
also i hate emma with the passion of a thousand burning suns, she is legit one of my least favourite characters in the entire franchise - and there are A LOT of characters - SO DO NOT GET YOUR HOPES UP TOO HIGH OKAY
James McAvoy is such a flawless human being. Love him. <3333
zingness of james mcavoy made me fight to stay awake. idk, i'm not, like, an ~AVID FOLLOWER of his work or anything (which, god only knows why, because i really should be, he is STUNNING)
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT. FIX THAT NATALIE. I DEMAND IT.
bwahaha! sorry bb, he's just not someone i'm interested in watching as a lead. also the films he picks are just way, way too heavy for me. he's always brilliant when he happens to be in something i am interested in watching, though!
