watched x-men first class tonight.

first of all: LOL. and not in a good way.

ummmmmmm, i don't even know, you guys, how can a movie be SO LOGICALLY FLAWED, it just hurts my brain. also, for an action movie, it was as slow as twilight. like, i was legit frustrated watching it at certain bits, and only the sheer amazingness of james mcavoy made me fight to stay awake. idk, i'm not, like, an ~AVID FOLLOWER of his work or anything (which, god only knows why, because i really should be, he is STUNNING) but every time i catch him in something i am just blown away all over again. also, michael fassbender is lovely, though i think ian mckellen has ruined me for any other possible candidate for magneto. (MICHAEL FASSBENDER LOOKS SO MUCH LIKE A YOUNGER JASON ISAACS IT ABOUT BLEW MY MIND THOUGH.)

SPEAKING OF LOOKALIKES, WHY ON EARTH DID MICHAEL HOULT LOOK SO MUCH LIKE MERLIN IN THIS SHOW OMG AOSIDJKNGHDFG WTF. i could not remember why he was so familiar for the first half of the movie, and then suddenly it hit me that i was watching colin firth's almost-lovah in action. om nom nom.

favourite parts of the movie hands down were the cameos though. hugh jackman and rebecca romijn? FAVOURITE. i gleefaced all over that shit. idk, they were just so unexpected and so much fun for me, and i think the best part of the x-men franchise is the element of surprise. that sudden oh moment when everything clicks or when something happens that makes you jump out of your chair and slap your thigh. that didn't happen much in this x-men installment, although i loved loved loved that action bit at the end, because i got so engrossed and bored in turn that i forgot i knew what was coming. unlike the hank situation, which was so drawn out i wanted to spork myself.

AND! AND!!!!!! WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH ALL THE CANON FUCKERY? the second havok showed up my entertainment level basically dropped by half. not voluntarily, either, part of me just kept chanting what the fuck, what the fuck, what the fuck because--yeah, no. i don't even know THAT much canon, but seriously, okay, you can say whatever you want about altering the comic book canon for the movie but IT REALLY IS KIND OF LIKE TAKING JEAN AND SCOTT AND GIVING THEM A LUKE I AM YOUR FATHER MOMENT. just--no. a hundred thousand nos.

also i did not get the erik/charles epic bromance thing. :////// they seem adorable irl, but i rarely get into a movie pairing irl, even when i love their characters together in a movie (viggorli is potentially the one exception). and it definitely wasn't happening in this movie for me. one of my favouritest things to watch is how the dynamic of a relationship unfolds, so when erik and charles became, like, bff in five seconds i already knew it was going to fall flat for me. they get on so well so quickly and i never feel like they forge any deeper connection in a believable way. that's my number one pet peeve in films/tv/fic/EVERYTHING IN LIFE. idk, jackie chan and owen wilson dealt with their evolving relationship better than this movie did. so.

overall this movie really, really tanked in my books.

back to the original cartoon series it is.

i like the sound of my own voice, fandom: lights camera action!
