All quiet on the eastern front.

Not much to say. I've decided to give up on the halting almost-relationship with one of the other graduate students (too incestuous, and I'm pretty sure I'm only after her body anyway . . . sigh). Joined the lab I came here to join. Kicked ass and took names on my coursework. Life's not perfect - I'm short a soulmate and a couple of Science papers ( Read more... )

So good to hear from you! Sorry about the incestuous, halting relationship. Good times.

I would meet you anywhere on the west coast if you were to come visit, I miss you. I still want to take a trip east to visit you and a friend in Minn, but I have no idea when that will happen.

Glad school is going well. The Science paper will come eventually, I have no doubt, nor any about the soulmate. Though I'm convinced that has more to do with good timing than anything.

If/when a west coast visit happens, it will certainly include the Seattle/Tacoma area. You'll be the first to know.

Hola. Still alive I see. Might need you to proofread something, don't know yet.

So, "One person did better than me; I'm going to fail" has finally translated into "kicked ass and took names." Ain't it great to have that first year over?

Just a soulmate and a couple of Science papers? You're so easy to please. That's one of the things I like about you. :)

:) It does have to be pointed out that your title should read something along the lines of "All Quiet on the Midwestern Front" or "...Northern Front" or "...Sort-of Western Front of Lake Michigan" or "...Cold Front." Choose, but remember, you are not east.

Heh. That wasn't so much 'one person did better than me, I'm going to fail' as 'You took off three points for that??!?'

Alas, the first year isn't over yet. But midterms (and the first semester) went well.

Northern front is appropriate. But if I can't call everything east of the rockies 'east' then there will be none of this calling everything west of the appalachians 'mid-west.'

Note we say "mid"-west...Which is a name that is pretty darn old and due to the fact that we were here first, not you Johnny-come-lately, whiny little west coasters. And, so when you weren't around, that was in fact the mid west or entirely west. Why do you think there's a college called Northwestern in Illinois?

Also, I didn't make up the names for places, someone else did. Otherwise I wouldn't be living in a place that sounds like some sort of processed meat product.

On another note: Three cheers for seasonal allergies.

So, who knows if you'll ever see this, but I saw your picture on the board and went 'holy fucking shit, have to write him.' Because guess who got inducted in the Company of St Ulrich two weekends ago? Yeah, that'd be me, the chick in the green dress behind Lord Dunstan. Crazy world, eh? Actually had a good talk with HE Sir Godric (he's Baron now, dunno if you knew that) about you while we were at Estrella.

Nice avatar. How are you?

Hm. Small world. Not especially surprised - my impression was that you were seeing Gary at one point. I figured you'd end up meeting the good folks at unofficial baronial sewing night sooner or later.

Oh the SCA . . . Glad to see that Noah and Gavin are still around. I was under a fuckton of stress that year, so I don't think I made a very graceful exit. I'd like to think I'll sign back up some day, but it isn't likely to be any time soon.

Glad to hear about Russ. I recall hearing a couple of people (outside the company) opinion that Godric could make king if he decided he wanted it.

Anyway, if the gang asks, I'm busy but well. Not doing heavy fighting at the moment - Aikido and Jujistu take less prep time, and the gf would probably not be amused by my spending sundays beating other men with sticks . . .

Oh - random favor. Would you be willing to get Gavin's mailing address for me? I have some stuff of his in a box somewhere in my apartment.

I'm doing alright. Just began the most difficult quarter of my second degree, and am already exhausted. C'est la vie ( ... )

Oh. That's too bad. I rather liked Gary.

Heh. She puts up with a lot of other stuff (long and unpredictable working hours, my going off to play D&D on fridays, an evening or two a week at the dojo, etc). Saturday evening/Sunday is the one time I'm reliably free. We're figuring on going to a couple of local renn fairs, but nothing serious. I don't think I could go to a war without wanting to fight in it.

Re Gavin:

Just a couple of warhammer books he lent me. He's not allowed to say he doesn't want them back.
