Sickbay - Day 35 [open/unfinished]

Feb 11, 2010 17:01

Sometimes even a small-town, country doctor could have brilliant ideas. Leonard was rather smug as he enjoyed his first cup of real coffee from Sickbay’s new coffeemaker. Looked around the small gathering just outside his office, watching everyone enjoy a rich, flavorful, steaming mug. It was the first day back on the mission. A time that ( Read more... )

Doctor Rueben Tyler, well known for his stunts are a paramedic and doctor in training was half way into throwing himself into a decon suit when he heard McCoy's words. Damn. He sighed and handed the decon suit off to the person who was supposed to have it and stood looking at McCoy as he waited for the rest of the orders to be issued.

After that was done he started his moves around Sickbay and started preparing all the things needed for Level 5 Quarantine Emergency. He gave out orders to get sickbay ready like a pro. He turned to see what he was left with.

"Zosto!" It gave him a thumbs up and Rueben nodded at least he had someone who knew what it was doing. "Anderson!" The kid came running up. They had been working on a few things and Rueben was hoping that he wouldn't fuck up. "You better know what you’re doing." he nodded and went off doing what he'd been doing. Rueben turned and waited for the first person to come in.

Man, it was turning out to be a shitty day for Kobay Anderson. He'd been talking up Lieutenant Christy Stiles in the Mess. He was so close to getting a date. He just knew it. He just had to keep asking. Who knew when the next answer would be Okay, fine!?

Then those idiots in Engineering had to go and screw things up. It was probably that mini-troll's fault. Kobay hoped the little freak had fallen into the engines.

On top of all that, Dr. Tyler had to come down on his ass again. Really, as if it wasn't obvious he was just kissing up to Dr. McCoy. Kobay was man enough to admit that his work might've been a little sloppy lately. (But he wasn't bitter about the shift change.) Dr. Bunny just had to be a sore winner. (That shift leader position should have been his! He'd served under Dr. McCoy longer!) And why didn't Dr. McCoy take him on the rescue team? They'd served in combat together ( ... )

Does a double take because there is no way in hell Anderson just fucked up the biobed. Nope, no way. Because he knows Anderson has to be smarter than to fuck up the biobed.

"Anderson!" he turned and quickly jogged over to the bed. He glared, shaking his head as he turned it off and started it back up. "Do not fuck with the biobeds damnit."

"S-Sorry, Sir! It was my foot! I accidentally kicked it and it went off!" Man, Tyler was even starting to sound like Dr. McCoy. Too bad he didn't have the right flare for it. One glare from the doctor would have you shaking in your regulation boots. Tyler just came off like a prick.

Why had he been picked over Kobay? He just didn't get it.

Tyler looked like he was going to open his big mouth again when Nurse Smith reported for duty. Kobay took a minute to give the new hire a good look-over. He hadn't had a chance to get to know her quite yet. She was no Christy Stiles, but not bad. He grinned at her while Dr. Bunny pretended to be Boss.

Rousseau immediately set into action, dashing from one end of the medbay to the other, holding vials of formulas in order to counter chemical poisoning, already setting up the burn kits in each biobed. It took a split second before she remembered her protective gear - important, as she had learned during the pollen incident. A mask around her head, latex gloves on her hands, her hair pulled up tight as the Doctor gave off orders, continuing to prepare the Medical Bay for incoming vases.

With a quick once over of his Nurse then pointed all around sickbay as people flooded in. "Get yourself in order Nurse then go to someone who looks sick please." he gave her a small smile. His words came out just hurried not mean.

Donnie was certainly not of the first who had come in. There seemed to be a smattering of crew members in a variety of colored shirts that peppered through sickbay showing signs of illness that might or might not have been due to coolant. He was the first, however, of those in engineering to come in. He'd finished helping with the vents and as the decontamination finally ended was sent to sickbay. There would probably soon be a steady stream of red-shirted crew members but, as of yet, he was the first drop in a large stream ( ... )

Rueben was running around sickbay helping out and just over all seeing to everyone he saw with the worst of the sickness. Then Anderson fucked something up and he had to fix it then he heard a lot of coughing. He rushed over to the random guy in the corner.

"Sir, are you okay?" he asked moving forward, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Are you from Engineering?"

Donnie turned around and, hey! It was the bunny guy! That...bugs...someone or...something. He coughed in his general direction finding the whole talking thing a little difficult. He was being positive, though, coughing meant he was still breathing. The nausea that had worsened he could handle, the lack of being able to breathe, however, that could become inconvenient.

He nodded briskly trying to catch his breath in gasping hiccups. After all, coughing on the guy was not exactly polite. He held his breath for a bit and let it go, feeling as if he'd run a marathon and breathing like it, too. This whole breathing thing was becoming an Olympic sport. He was never good at sports or...physical endurance.

Yes he was from engineering, he reiterated with another enthusiastic nod. The kid seemed pretty perceptive. Maybe he could gesture his way through this conversation after all.

It took a few seconds for him to notice that it was the guy from the Christmas party. Donnie. He smiled, putting an arm around him to help walk him over to a bed.

"Okay here, let's get you to a bed." he mumbled. Rueben waved over a Nurse. "Lay on your side please," he helped roll the other man over. Right now he was all Doctor. Rueben looked up at the biobed readings to make sure they came back...well alive. "Get this man on a respirator." he looked down at Donnie, pulling out a pin light to shine in Donnie's eyes as the Nurse got a respirator.

Sickbay had a moderate but steady flow of incoming patients, most of which had manageable ailments. The next group of people to rush in, though, was a different matter entirely. Two medical hovercarts rushed in surrounded by five people. On the carts lay Scotty and Miller. Amongst the group of attending medics was Dr. McCoy.

"I need two biobeds STAT! Got seriously injured people here! If yer not workin' with a critical patient, yer workin' with me!"

Rueben was on clearing out two biobeds for McCoy before he even spoke. "Get these two to another area Nurse." he helped up one guy and sent him to the Nurse who was helping them both over to a seating area.

"Two biobeds over here sir!" he waved them over and went to help pull Miller over onto the second bed. McCoy would take Scott since he was a higher rank and most likely injured worse than the other. "What do we have here?" he asked, requesting any information from the people with Miller.

"'kin' mess..." Scotty mumbled, making another attempt at cracking an eyelid open. Nope, still smarted like a bitch; he hissed between his teeth and gripped the edge of the biobed, trying not to rub at his stinging eyes and probably do more damage in the process. He made a concentrated effort to maintain his voice at the level it was at, barely audible over the sudden chaos in medbay; "Get Miller...firs'...was closer...when't blew..."

As the team transferred Miller and Scott to the biobeds, information was batted about. One of the medics on Miller supplied, "Just as the Chief said, Sir. This one got the full brunt of the leak. Toxicity high, BP low, respiration labored. Patient was found unconscious."

In the adjacent bed, Leonard laid a hand on Scotty's shoulder again. "Easy, they're gettin' to him. Just watch an' see. Now hold still while I give ya somethin' for those symptoms." He pulled a hypo from his pocket, continuing as he programmed it, "Won't be too much longer before this is all over." Because he was feeling a little bad for all Scotty had been put through, he was more gentle about administering the injection.
