surgery & bcp related question....

As I prepare myself psychologically for surgery next Thursday (meep!), one thing has been on my mind today and that is: how soon after surgery can you restart your BCP? My gp seemed to think two weeks would be fine...but he was quite indecisive and seemed fairly uncertain about his answer, so I figured I'd pop on here and check with you ladies as ( Read more... )

Oh wow.... I didn't start my new ones because the packet said 'stop this three weeks prior to surgery' and I knew I'd be having my GB out within the next couple of months (I definitely did not expect 3 weeks after my initial assessment! ha).

So maybe it's not as big a deal after all? Hmmm.

Mmm good point. Yeah my doctor said something about that today as well, about how they'll have me up and walking about within two hours, so it lessens DVT risk were I to start the pill again in two weeks....but he was so uncertain about how long exactly, so I'm not sure.

I was thinking of just playing it safe and waiting until my second period. So, basically 6 weeks.

Yeah when surgery is so quickly done, sometimes you can't do much (esp with medications and sorting things).

I was on the Ring, asked my doctor, and he told me to keep it in during my laparoscopy surgery even. But if your GP wanted you to wait two weeks then I'd do that. You could always call again and ask for clarification if you want.

Listen to your doctor on this one. He's going to know what's best for you in this situation, better than us.

Good luck with your surgery!!
