First off, however, an observation/question. I seem to be getting one or more spam comments every day on old LJ posts and, frankly, I am getting tired of it. I figure I can disable commenting to non-LJ accounts or I can start f'locking every post but it's not like I have so huge a readership that I like to block the one or two non-LJ friends who

I would be devastated if I could no longer read your scintillating posts about birds and home maintenance and adventurous expeditions. I never get LJ spam, and mine is open to anonymous comments. But then, I am a *SPECIAL* snowflake.

So my suggestion is that if it truly annoys you, that you might try changing over to Blogger. Of course, I understand you've had some issues there trying to comment on my blog. I've also had issues there, as it hates to leave me signed in for some reason, but only on Evil!IE. If I use Mozilla Firefox, it works just fine. Just a thought.

Perhaps you should just stay here and lock everything - I always log in to read LJ, so I wouldn't miss anything.

Nice way to celebrate your homeiversery. I actually forgot mine last August, it had been so long. These days I've been celebrating my Discovery of Birdwatching Anniversary (birdiversary?) every mid-May instead.

You *are* a special snowflake; there were three spammy responses to this very post, one of them in Russian. I've opted to disable non-LJ comments which I think should address most of the problems. Eli says he gets a lot of spam on Blogger as well and shifting just sounds like too much effort any way. Lovely photos of your yard, by the way. -em.

I too have had the spam on old posts problem. What's even more irritating is when I don't have the option to report as spam. If you do f-lock, I'd still like to keep up with you!

There used to be a "report this comment as spam" feature but it seems to have vanished just as the quantity of spam went up. Whatevs. As noted above, I'm disabling anonymous comments and hoping that will help. But now I'm going to have to ask myself, "WWJSD?" -em.
