People get so ticked off whenever anything has a cost associated with it! What is going on with kids today? And, more importantly, how the hell are they going to eat when they crawl out of their parents' wallets?
I think it's funny that people post comments about things they don't research first, like who actually owns the copyright and in addition, don't pick up things like the fact that the designer was credited in the listing and whatnot. I sell my designs to a local store with a yarnshop, and yes, one of them has been on Knitty (as you already know.) But, a VAST majority of people in the area don't have internet, ESPECIALLY the ones who are over a certain age and knit. Besides, it's my copyright (again, something you're well familiar with.)
Above all, I just chalked it up to ignorance of how things actually are... and I've notice the trend that the community is getting younger and younger and younger (not that it's necessarily a bad thing, it's just an observation.)
Fortunately, the vast majority seem to just be concerned that some unethical person yanked a pattern and is selling it sans permission to make a quick buck on someone else's work, more than OMG selling patterns is BAD because everything should be FREE!1!!111eleventy!one!1!
There's one person in the Go club that whenever I discuss anything that isn't perfectly free, gets this look of smug distate on her face. Bugs the hell out of me.
