I can't fully see the screen right now for tears.  This was such a happy/sad event. I took screen grabs of Google Earth as it tracked Atlantis' landing. I'll be posting them later along with a neat video made by the crew before landing ( Read more... )

"The space shuttle pulls into port for the final time; its voyage at an end," line got me, too! So happy/sad! And the sonic booms got my heart thumping. I'm very glad Atlantis is home, but I wish they were still up there at the ISS where it's supposed to be.

Hopefully the fact that the space transportation system is done for good will motivate enough people to figure out what the space launch system (the next thing) will be and make it happen ASAP.

I agree. Have you seen the video the STS-135 crew made about the STS-1 flag? http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/videogallery/index.html?media_id=101615961 I cried SO MUCH at the end. What a great sentiment.

I swear that I'm going to be in a position to see a launch of SOMETHING DAMMIT someday, preferably something with people aboard again.

It was neat hearing the BOOM BOOM on the feed from KSC. I'd never heard that before. Must be quite something being right underneath it (don't tell me, because then I'll have to fight even more feelings of jealousy over your experiences :P ).
