I am empowered!

I didn't have electricity for 24 hours, it was really a bummer...  everyone else in the building had power, it was only me.  Something broke and they couldn't fix it and I ended up having to make endless phone calls leaning on people every minute just to get them to do anything at all!  It is amazing that they can't know there is a problem and ( Read more... )

Cheney as in Dick Cheney? And I still haven't watched Juno yet. It's on my to-do list.

Yeah, I started off making a bureaucrat/evil suit/Dick type character.... and he definitely has a malefic vibe, except that he looks like he is cozying up to my vase.

I highly recommend 'Juno', it is Canadian made and it is very off-beat, funny, and full of quirky interesting twists (a little like Napoleon Dynamite... in a way). The music is good and the visuals are wonderful.

Are you sure that's Dick? He looks like he's flirting with your vase. You have to be human to flirt don't you? LOL.

Did they tell you why you didn't have power for so long?

the small circuits in my apartment were all fine, but the big ass circuit breaker down in the garage area (for my apartment only) was broken.... My maintenance guy couldn't fix it so he had to get an electrician, but the electrician couldn't fix it because the power company had a lock on it, and the power company wouldn't come because my apartment complex rental office was responsible for 100% of up-keep ad repairs of all electronics for the building.... So I had to force the power company to send someone out, and I had to force the rental office to get the electrician back here to meet the power company guy.... if I hadn't come home early from by ceramics class then no one would have done anything and I would still be without any power!
*grrrr argh*

Well Dick had looked really mean when I sculpted him, and even meaner after he was fired, but as soon as I set him on the table next to my flower vase guy they started to flirt with each other! Who would have thought it?

Thank goodness you came home early then. This being a long weekend, who knows how long you would have veen with no power.

What else can you expect from someone named Dick?

Exactly! Everyone waltzes off for a long weekend and I'm stuck here in the dark, not able to cook (I have an electric stove), and rotting food in my rapidly warming refrigerator.... It seems like these things always happen at the worst time: like when I was planning to stay home and watch videos all weekend, and like when I had just bought a bunch of frozen foods that were expensive!

he does look a bit creepy! even if he is smarming up to your pretty vase.

I like Juno, too. Very good movie.

I am so glad you got your power back on. that would stick. I hope it wasn't too hot being without AC (like I'd know, it's 48 here)

I must confess that I don't really need electricity for AC or heat.... it is always in the 60's here (summer and winter) so I can survive regardless.
But my stove is electric, so I couldn't have any warm food, while my food rotted in the refrigerator (although most of it seemed fine after the 24 hours of no power).
No, I confess: mostly it is no TV and no computer that got me down (I'm shallow).

I had heard that Juno was good, but I was surprised at how much it touched me.

I have to admit the weather here sucks. everyone keeps saying it's an unseasonably cold spring, but for crying out loud, it's the 27th of May and it's 49 degrees outside. It was nice on Sunday, though. I hope I can get used to this place, the weather makes me miserable. And it's always so FRICKIN' windy!!!

If I didn't have electricity, it'd be the same thing, the no computer, that would get me down. And not being able to cook things (but, that's why restaurants were invented!!)

yeah, I've visited the Buffalo area, and the weather does suck big time (when I first visited it was Thanksgiving and they got 6 feet of snow!). You know the summers will be really hot too, don't you, just as hot as the deep South? But I hope you find things you can love that will compensate....

Yeah, I spend a lot of time watching TV and even more being online.... I can read, and do stuff around here (in fact I have to clean in order to get ready for a possible visit from a friend), but I feel deprived if I can't get online!
