I have discovered a way to motivate myself: make a daily list. I take my small whiteboard and write a list of things I need to do and things I want to do on it, then check off each item as it's finished. They may be small items like "email Mom" or "make iced tea" or bigger ones like "clean the kitchen." This keeps me going for three reasons ( Read more... )

I also vote for genetics. You can't imagine how many lists I found in Grandmother's house.

I also adore lists. I feel so much more productive if I have them and can see what I've done.

And yes, it does feel silly and immature to be getting pleasure out of doing a list, and the rewarding feeling... one occasion, I actually went so far as to buy a little box of those foil stars you lick to make them sticky, and used them as accomplishment rewards.

...and pats to you, m'dear! (I love getting a backrub every morning, it starts the day off right.) And thank you for reminding me to enlist myself in listing...I knew I had forgotten to do something lately. Perhaps now I can get something accomplished besides eating. I don't seem to forget to do that!
