We're not going to Pennsic this year, so now that Lilies and Trilliums (I refuse to call it "Trillies") are over, so's my SCA summer camping. That's actually a little sad

Can you freeze water in plastic milk or juice bottles and use that as ice in the chest? I do that and drink from the bottles as it melts. For a long event I use a container with a more open mouth so I can refill with bought ice cubes and still drink it...
The plastic bottle idea is a good one for a smaller cooler and/or a shorter event and/or non-Midwest-in-June temperatures :)
The bigger issue at Lilies is that our camp ate communally, with coolers in the kitchen tent that I was not personally responsible for. The three main coolers were HUGE and difficult to drag outside, when fully/mostly stocked to drain. A teen boy in camp did an ice run daily (sometimes twice daily) in order keep things cold.
I'm going to suggest next year that draining the coolers be a daily camp chore and that we rig up a way (maybe hoses?) to do without having to drag the coolers anywhere.
About #4: We use dry ice at Pennsic (we buy big blocks at home, and suppliment from Praxair as needed) for our "fridge", and ice only in the drinks cooler (who cares if the coke is wet on the outside, and if you are careful the labels stay on the wine bottles). This might be possible for Lillies? For Trillium we use the "blue Ice" block things, and freeze all the meat before we go. This year was so hot and not shady that we needed to buy ice and it was GROSS!
About #1: We have labeled totes for everything (this is how my OCD manifests, and we have a good sized trailer), including a box called "Amusements", which contains bocce, mancala and other stone games, cards, dominos, sketch paper and pencils, etc. In the winter we take out a few things to put in the feast gear box, but many things stay packed and ready for camping entertainment! Come play a game with us!
