I'm fairly sure there are no cases of heraldic tinctures in Order names, as we thrashed out in great detail. The relevant quote allows for "Orders named for heraldic charges or for items that, while not found in period as heraldic charges, may be used as heraldic charges. [...] These names may contain the ordinary color names of any heraldic tincture." So: royalty not quite listening to heralds' advice before announcing something; not exactly a riveting newsflash, that. What the hell; we'll cope

Because English order names had English colour words in them. If we wanted to register a French order name then we would use French words, but we would need to translate Pegasus and Wyvern as well, and it's worth noting that gules isn't French for red either.
