Southern Cross

Well its official now, announced in court, so I'll make a post here. I am acting Crux, hopefully for just a few weeks until 12th Night. Will be managing the search for the next Crux. I hope it's not a poisoned chalice.

In more cheerful news I have been awarded a Golden Tear (AoA level service award). I had made some intemperate comment (after a couple of beers) during the feast about never having had an award from Lochac, and I guess their Maj's decided I needed one, so called me up during closing court. Had a discussion with them (in between these two events) about how to ensure the work of heralds doesn't go unnoticed. So much is done behind the scenes, and I don't expect 90% of our Barony have any idea of what most heralds do, especially Kingdom level ones. We need to start recommending each other more. (Except you Tamsyn - I know your preferences on this.)

The new names of the GoA level awards were announced. Argent Pegasus, Cockatrice and Wyvern Gules. I had told their majesties that the tincture names would need to be the normal English words rather than the heraldic tincture names, and they did acknowledge that there might need to be tweaks to the names when they announced them. The names are nicely symbolic. The Pegasus is one of the supporters of the Kingdom arms, and the name of the Kingdom Newsletter. Cockatrice is the Kingdom A&S newsletter (currently in not being published). The last Prince of Lochac, who has passed away, bore (unregistered) arms which included a red wyvern. That is something I can get on with productively as Crux over the next few weeks. William de Wyke was inducted as the first member of the Order of the Cockatrice (A&S). Huzzah!
