This is a sad, sad list. Since I'm not commuting anymore I'm not listening to audiobooks. And I don't have time for reading other than school stuff. So it's basically my binge list from when I was in Colorado.

Jan - Jun:
Mary Queen of Scotland and the Isles - Margaret George ( Read more... )

lists, books

You've certainly given me a lot to consider! I'm intrigued by Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life and The Secret Life of Bees. As it is, I've been reading Reader's Digest Condensed Books because I don't have the time to read anything else. I'm the type of person who literally cannot put a book down once I've started reading it. So, unless I have several hours in a row to devote to reading, I just don't do it. Anyway, thanks for your reviews. :)

I think you'd be amused by Encyclopedia. But both of them are good and pretty fast reads. I bet Encyclopedia could be read in several hours, and Bees in a day.

Cool! When I can afford it, I'll look for them on Amazon. :)

I LOVE Margaret George, and the two you listed the best!! That's so awesome, I've never known anyone else who's read her books. Except the Mary, Called Magdalene one...I couldn't get through it. But Helen of Troy???? I had no idea! And I LOVE Greek mythology so that is such good news - thanks!

I also love Gregory Maguire. :)

I love, love, love historical fiction and I largely credit that to her. Her writing is amazing. Henry VIII was the first one I read and I was astounded that after 2000 pages or whatever I still wanted more!!

Yeah, Helen of Troy came out beginning of August. Let me know what you think of it if you pick it up soon!

I have to say, I saw Sideways on DVD and I didn't care for it. It was very uncomfortable to watch, and I didn't really enjoy spending time in the company of these people, either. I was left wondering why I didn't seem to get it, when so many others thought it was a great movie.

That's fair. They are very flawed characters -- stealing from mom, cheating with wild abandon and no remorse, driving drunk... But I don't know, I just really liked the feel of the story for some reason.

I didn't get Lost in Translation so I know what you mean. I mean it was ok, but it didn't change the world for me or anything the way other people reacted to it.

I think a lot of people relate to Lost in Translation if they have spent anytime long amount of time overseas. Learning to deal in a country where you understand nothing...that sort of thing.

Have you read The Mermaid Chair by the same author as The Secret Life of Bees?

Both are great but I definitely liked Life of Bees better.
