[Xanth is here, safe, but he's not happy that everyone else is going out risking their lives to protect him and Kairi. But... at least Kairi's safe. That's the silver lining in this.

Kairi is one of the last to arrive. She waves half-heartedly at familiar faces as she glances around the room. But she can't manage a smile. She's safe. They're safe.

And Jinx is going to die.

She didn't mean for it to sound rude. Hiding away because a crazy guy was after you was not her idea of fun. But she was safest her. She was least likely to put others in danger here.
