Lenny perched on a railing close by, watching as Motoko spoke. No one had looked at him twice, and less than that had any idea that he was there to help.

What can I do, though?

The bird shivered in the cold, surrounded by dire faces and thoughts of hidden killers.

Lenny hadn't gone quite unnoticed--the Major was observant. "What's a seagull doing belowdecks?"

She might have been addressing Batou, but she was certainly looking at Lenny.

"Like the masseuse, it appears some passengers have shells that resemble animals, Major," Batou said, standing behind the Major's right shoulder, one pace behind. His blank metal eyes gleamed in the light as he scanned Lenny. "A small, light flier might be useful for reconnaissance, especially against a sniper, Major."

Lenny turned waited to see if the Major had anything else to say. He was a bit put-off when he noticed her companion's eyes.

what is he looking at? Can he even see with those things?

He spun his head around, looking for the source of interest- completely unaware that it was him.

"So our objectives are to hold decks eight through eleven clear for the mechanic, cover decks twelve through fifteen as we're able, and keep clear of the sniper?" Navid asked, ticking the points off on his finger tips.

"Yes." The Major nodded curtly. "Aid noncombatant passengers if it doesn't endanger your effectiveness. Mercy-kill if it comes to that."

"Understood." Navid stood and split off into three. "I can hold my own, and can split into three identical copies. Can work well as a team or split. Communication should be no issue. So, place us where you will."

The Major's eyes wided a little. That was a new one on her. "What happens when one gets injured?" she asked.

The Hero of Time was used to working alone - perhaps it was part of the title. Link was leaning against a wall, only half-listening. All these people... he didn't really feel very comfortable around them, not in a situation like this. Too many here. They should just go back upstairs, and let him and maybe a few others handle it. Only a few people had been killed so far, but that was a few too many, and every casualty chipped away at his spirits.

The Major noticed that the young man was looking unsettled. "Link? Anything to add?"

What to do... undoubtedly at least a few of the people here will die or get taken...

But there's no way he's going to tell all these people to leave. Link's not stupid, they're not going to listen to him. Besides, in the back of his mind he knows he can't handle this many redead by himself, as much as he'd prefer to take care of it alone.

He shakes his head silently.

From her previous talks with Link, the Major had a pretty good idea what was wrong.

"Everyone here is a volunteer. You don't have a right to question that decision for them." She said it gently, for her.

Erol didn't want to be here. He WOULDN'T be here if Torn hadn't bullied him into it. Erol might have been KG, but he'd rather pick and choose who he was working with, and this - rabble - was not his idea of a good unit. And damned if he wanted to be taking orders from the cyborgs.

"We should lock the lower decks off. Kill everything down there, then mop up."

Similar to the tactic Praxis had used on Dead Town. Of course, Praxis had never reclaimed Dead Town, and simply abandoning the area wasn't an issue on a boat like this. Which was where a mass-kill weapon such as gas came into it. Easy enough to concoct chlorine from ammonia and bleach, or some other mixture with readily-available substances onboard.

All right, so, perhaps the zombies didn't breathe - they could come up with an acid, or if worst came to worst, organize a rigorous sweep. The zombies didn't have firearms after all, they could just be mowed down and cleared out on a systematic basis.

The Major frowned at Erol. "That's what we're doing. Unless you're hiding a stockpile of antipersonnel mines that would speed things up?"

What the hell was that psychopath even doing here? Torn had been glowering at him a great deal, and Erol had the sulky air of a schoolboy being forced to clean the erasers. She still wasn't sure what was going on between those two, and she fervently wished not to be involved.

Erol chuckled at the idea. As if anyone would give him explosives.

"That's funny, I didn't hear anything about a mass-kill strategy or front line advance. Unless you think 'clear and hold down to 11' qualifies, to a disorganized rabble like this."

"Oh, you meant gas. It doesn't work well on things that don't breathe." Kusanagi brushed off the suggestion.

"They are a disorganized rabble." She shrugged fractionally. "What I want to do is establish control of Deck 12, leave a detachment to hold the breach, and sweep upward and downward simultaneously."

The Major snorted derisively. "Then I considered what would actually happen if I tried to organize that."

Kevas stood towards the back as he listened to the Major outline the plan. It was mostly for the sake of the others because at the moment, he was caked in gore and probably smelling a bit ripe.

It was about time they got this underway. From what he'd seen on the lower decks, those damn zombies had been more organized than them. They were usually in groups of twos or threes while everyone here had run off on their own. Hell they had even managed to take someone captive.

The plan was simple but a sound one. There wasn't much more they could do than that anyway. Still the troll had some questions.

"What about protection fuh da mechanic's team? Clearin' da decks gonna take some time and dey ain't gonna wait fuh us. Not sure if we be havin' da manpowah to clear da decks and keep dem safe."

It was a good point. The Major nodded in acknowledgment. "The fore elevator bank is right next to the fire. The Mechanic would like us to keep that functioning if possible. Can you coordinate that?"

Kevas tipped his hat toward the Major. "I'll keep da path clear."

It may have been guard duty, but at least he wouldn't be far from the action.

"I doubt it'll be boring." The Major snorted a little. "You'll probably get a lot of spillover from 11."
