The Hero of Time was used to working alone - perhaps it was part of the title. Link was leaning against a wall, only half-listening. All these people... he didn't really feel very comfortable around them, not in a situation like this. Too many here. They should just go back upstairs, and let him and maybe a few others handle it. Only a few people had been killed so far, but that was a few too many, and every casualty chipped away at his spirits.

The Major noticed that the young man was looking unsettled. "Link? Anything to add?"

What to do... undoubtedly at least a few of the people here will die or get taken...

But there's no way he's going to tell all these people to leave. Link's not stupid, they're not going to listen to him. Besides, in the back of his mind he knows he can't handle this many redead by himself, as much as he'd prefer to take care of it alone.

He shakes his head silently.

From her previous talks with Link, the Major had a pretty good idea what was wrong.

"Everyone here is a volunteer. You don't have a right to question that decision for them." She said it gently, for her.

He frowned and looked away. Volunteers, sure. The knights of Hyrule were all volunteers, too, but that didn't stop Ganondorf from killing all of them.

But Motoko is right, and Link knew it - that's why he hadn't said anything. His eyes dart back to her and he gives her a curt nod.

"...I'll do whatever you need me to."

She nodded back. "What do you feel you'd be best at? These...'redeads' are from your world, aren't they?"

Pausing for a moment in thought, he drew the Master Sword from his back and held it out to show her.

"I should probably help take these out. I've killed dozens of these before, and the Master Sword is made to cut down monsters like these." It was true, it only took one strong swipe to cleanly slice a redead's bone skull right in half. "We should conserve the ammo, right? For those weird weapons. Everyone keeps saying that they're running low."

"'Weird weapons?'" The Major chuckled and drew her sidearm to show Link. Dropping the magazine, she offered it to him to examine while she cleared the round from the chamber, ready to show him the weapon itself.

"Yeah... those."

When she offered it to him to see, he put his sword away and took it curiously. It was heavier than it looked... and what was that thing she took out?

"What are these?"

She handed him the single round from the chamber. "Rounds. A bullet inside a cartridge. Under the brass is gunpowder. When it gets hot, it produces a gas that expands very quickly and propels the bullet out of the gun."

"I see." His curious nature got the best of him as he brightened just slightly, inspecting the bullet. For a moment he'd forgotten what's going on and everything the redeads were causing him to remember.

"Now I understand. I was wondering how those things could be projectiles." He hands the gun and bullet back to her and then reaches behind his shield to pull his bow from his pack. "I've got this, if I need it. Do you have bows where you're from?"

Kusanagi reloaded the gun with practiced ease. "We have bows, but people only use them for sport." She doesn't mention the composite compound bows and graphite-shafted arrows. "Will that stop a redead?"

"It's not as effective as my sword," he said as he tucked it back behind his shield. "It takes a few shots... But if I need to use it, I can. And I can retrieve used arrows as long as they're not damaged."

He glanced around at the other people there, and looked back up at her, worried.

"When they run out of ammo - they'll be okay? Fighting them close-up instead?" Yes, he was still worried about that.

"Some of them won't be," she answered frankly. "Which is why I put so much emphasis on fire discipline and personal safety.

"Part of coordinated push is that it'll keep reinforcements within shouting distance, which I'm hoping will reduce casualties."

"Alright," he said in affirmation. "I'll be... out front, right?" Hopefully he would be, Link was confident the redeads wouldn't kill him unless he was utterly outnumbered.

"If you like, though there won't be much of a 'front' in the beginning," Kusanagi said. "Is there anyone you operate with?"
