There was a little girl standing in the back, listening. When did she get there? She definitely didn't look dressed to fight, either - she's wearing the kind of street clothes a Japanese junior high student would wear. A pink hat, a pink jacket, a skirt.

Despite her appearance, she didn't look terribly frightened. Just very serious.

Having already accepted the help of a seagull, a middle schooler didn't seem like as much of a stretch to Major as it might have.

"Hello?" she greeted the girl.

"It's nice to meet you, Kusanagi," Lain said with a smile in Japanese, and she gave a proper bow. Something about her was strange, inorganic, but it was the kind of thing that you just can't put your finger on. Maybe it was the strange mix of her appearance and demeanor, maybe the way she never blinked, much like a cyborg.

"We haven't met face-to-face, right? I'm Iwakura Lain."

"Ah." The child may have insisted she wasn't a cyborg, but she certainly read like one. The Major switched to Japanese. "You're not a fighter. Why are you here?"

Kate had been busy tending to Milly and the injured cougar before she made it to the Major's briefing.

"Which of you is the Major; I need to know where I'll be of the best help."

Kate was breathing heavily, a little tired at the moment from having to use as much of her power as she did. She just needed to rest for a few minutes, and she would be back to tip-top shape.

"Over here. Starlen, isn't it?" Kusanagi asked.

She used her last name. 'Oh, that is right, that is how military talk,' she thought to herself.

"Yes ma'am. With a title like Major, I assume you are military?" she bowed low at the waist, then stood again. "Please, I want to help."

Kate carried a thick leather-bound book under her left arm and tightly clutched a silver wand in her right hand.

"I can keep people on their feet and help them fight better, and I have spells that could prove to distract the undead."

"Yes, I'm with the military." Or close enough to it, for all Starlen needed to know. Kusanagi compiled a movement profile and heat and voice signatures on the new arrival while they talked.

"Are you averse to entering the combat zone?" she asked.

Erwin shifted, rifle butt resting on the ground, fingers wrapped around the upper stock in his 'rest' position. It was automatic, after three years in the army. He raised his chin slightly, "Grenadier Erwin Fischer, ready and reporting, herr Major!"

'Herr' Major? Kusanagi kicked on her German linguistics program to make sure that was right. Ah. Polite address despite its apparent gender specificity.

"Are you more comfortable in German?" she asked the young man, while she had the program running.

"You know about my Alchemy." Ed said calmly. "With the power restrictions, I think I can do one big thing, once."

"Hmm." The Major folded her arms and looked Ed over. "We'll keep you in reserve, then. You'd be of more use against the sniper than the zombies."
