Sometimes Jak just liked to go to the caves and think. It was quiet and dark, and very few passengers ever frequented such a unexciting, secluded area.
He had a lot to think about lately.
Thinking required fuel though, and he hadn't eaten all day. Sighing, he hauled himself to his feet and moved towards the stairs. He'd just-
A clatter in the air vents made him pause. Narrowing his eyes suspiciously, he crept over, rising up on his toes to peer inside.
Laying face down in the air duct seemed like a good idea to Daxter, but if he didn't get out of the vent he wouldn't be found. Still, he was tempted, and for more than a few seconds he didn't move. Footsteps made his ears prick up however, and he lifted his head to gaze wearily at the entrance to the ventilation system.
Oh good. "Hey Jak," he sighed, and lifted a bloody hand in greeting. "Little help?"
With the removal of the vent, brighter light flooded into the duct and Daxter winced away from it, blinking until his eyes readjusted. He crawled forward best he could, but didn't make the jump onto Jak's shoulders for fear of just slipping right off and cracking his head open on the floor. Idly he wondered if he was really that bad, or if the blood loss (and his chronic need to exaggerate his health -or lack thereof- to point of hysterics) had just made him a lot foggier than he usually was.
"You got any of that glowy stuff handy? I could use a pick-me-up." Daxter attempted to climb into Jak's hands.

"Dax?"
Daxter in an air vent. Not a strange occurrence. But Daxter laying down and forgoing his usual sarcastic quip was wrong, very wrong.
Slipping his fingers through the grate, Jak tugged until it snapped off, eyes widening as he saw the blood.
Oh no.
