[Location: His room, but some buttdial accidental voice action]

Oct 02, 2010 21:17

Connor had been a bit of a shut-in ever since the disaster. He was fine, sure, but it had shaken him up a little. Pair that with the sudden disappearance of Abby, and Connor just wasn't sure what to make of this city. He also wasn't sure what to think of Didi. He'd had one hell of a crazy dream - vivid as anything, and it had shaken him up ( Read more... )

Well, that was one hell of an awkward thing to hear out of nowhere. Ashley debated for all of two minutes before she decided to break it to the poor guy that he was making a total ass out of himself. "Uhh - dude. What the hell are you doing? And why do you feel like we wanna hear it?"

Connor could only barely make out the voice, but the sound in general was foreign. It wasn't in the game and it wasn't in the room. It was-

"...oh shi- 'Ello?" He grabbed his phone and checked to see who he was calling. "Ashley, right? Sorry... Must've accidentally called you. Er... yeah..." He trailed off, not really sure what else to say.

Ashley couldn't stifle the chuckle. "It's not a big deal, just -- the hell's going on over there? Sounds like a damn battlefield. Whose ass are you kicking, anyway?"

"S'a game." He said, propping the phone up with his shoulder and tapping a few keys. "Pretty fun, actually. Frustrating, though. You play? Games, I mean." He figured it was a long shot, but hey, he already had her on the phone. No harm in asking, right?

[Death had been sitting in her office, in her chair, spinning in slow circles. To say that she had little to no 'clients' was an understatement. But this kept her out of the room most of the day. She did go home to feed Slim and Wandsworth, a couple times during the day, though. It was surprising, them showing up out of nowhere.

Her cell phone sat on her desk and she jumped when she suddenly heard Connor's voice, complaining about...something. Something needing to die. She picked up the phone and held it to her ear.]

Connor?

[He heard her and froze. Turning his head one way, then the other, he finally realized that Didi's voice was coming from his phone. Pausing his game, Connor grabbed the phone and put it slowly to his ear.]

Speaking. I mean... Hey. Didi? I must've bumped my phone while I was playin' this game. Sorry.

[He paused.]

How've you been?

It's okay. I was just confused by you going on about someone needing to die.

[She giggled, looking at the far wall of her office.]

I'm alright. How're you?

Yeah I thought I had the keypad locked. Guess not.

[Not that he was going to complain for the coincidence of talking to her.]

Good... good. [He didn't sound so convincing.] Just been... taking it easy. [More like hiding in his room.]

Cordy's head snapped up and her eyebrows drew together as she tried to figure out where the hell the disembodied voice had come from. It took her a minute to figure out that it had come from her phone thingie - but seriously? Did the guy just need to scare people like that? For real?

Picking her phone up, Cordelia Chase didn't even debate about whether or not she'd let the guy in on what a loser he sounded like.

"Seriously? You know, I totally have better things to be doing than to listen to you ranting like some loser. Seriously."

It was sort of like reliving his teenage years. Some girl going on about how he wasn't very cool, and Connor feeling like a dolt because he couldn't come up with a very good argument to the contrary. But unlike his high school years, Connor had experience on his side. He was Connor Temple, after all. He hunted dinosaurs. And who was she? ...No, really. Who was she?

"Sorry. I was playin' this game. And I must've bumped it." He looked at the screen. "Cordelia? Is that your name? I'm Connor." Being friendly never really hurt... until someone decided they really wanted it to, that is. He hoped this girl wasn't the sort to track a guy down and slap him for no reason.

"Oh that totally makes it ok," Cordelia replied sarcastically. God, how did she manage to attract the losers? What did she have? A loser magnet or something?!

"How'd you know my name?!" she demanded, completely forgetting about the called ID. "Are you stalking me or something? Because if you are, I'll have you know I can kick your ass at least ten different ways."

"No, I-!" He fumbled over his words. "S'in the phone! Says right here: Cordelia Chase. It's a nice name." He paused. "M'not stalkin' anyone!"

The sound of the man's voice caused Inara to jump a little, mainly because that wasn't the sort of thing she'd really expected to be hearing anyone say to her.

Picking up her phone, she stared at it for a moment before she finally replied. "I believe you've managed to call the wrong person."

Connor was distracted for a moment longer.

"Stupid piece of sh- What?" He found his phone then. "'Lo? Who's this?"

Inara's lips pulled into a smile before she replied. "I'm Inara, Inara Serra. And might I ask who this is?"

Now that was an impressive name, if he'd ever heard one.

"Name's Connor Temple. Can I help you with somethin'?" It seemed as though Connor was unaware of his mistake.
