[Location: His room, but some buttdial accidental voice action]

Oct 02, 2010 21:17

Connor had been a bit of a shut-in ever since the disaster. He was fine, sure, but it had shaken him up a little. Pair that with the sudden disappearance of Abby, and Connor just wasn't sure what to make of this city. He also wasn't sure what to think of Didi. He'd had one hell of a crazy dream - vivid as anything, and it had shaken him up ( Read more... )

Well, that was one hell of an awkward thing to hear out of nowhere. Ashley debated for all of two minutes before she decided to break it to the poor guy that he was making a total ass out of himself. "Uhh - dude. What the hell are you doing? And why do you feel like we wanna hear it?"

Connor could only barely make out the voice, but the sound in general was foreign. It wasn't in the game and it wasn't in the room. It was-

"...oh shi- 'Ello?" He grabbed his phone and checked to see who he was calling. "Ashley, right? Sorry... Must've accidentally called you. Er... yeah..." He trailed off, not really sure what else to say.

Ashley couldn't stifle the chuckle. "It's not a big deal, just -- the hell's going on over there? Sounds like a damn battlefield. Whose ass are you kicking, anyway?"

"S'a game." He said, propping the phone up with his shoulder and tapping a few keys. "Pretty fun, actually. Frustrating, though. You play? Games, I mean." He figured it was a long shot, but hey, he already had her on the phone. No harm in asking, right?

"If by games, you mean a shooting range with moving targets that have weird faces stuck to them, yeah. But uh -- the most gaming I do is on Facebook. Or, was. Don't have it here." If he listened really, really hard, he might be able to hear that one shouldered shrug she gave while she was talking. Ashley hadn't ever really had a need or desire to play videogames. She lived them.

"Facebook?" He said, nearly spitting the word out. "S'not real gaming at all!" Oh, the high and mighty nerd-talk. Connor sometimes didn't realize just how ridiculous he sounded.

"You should play sometime. S'fun."

"Yeah, you got a problem?" Ashley sounded more than just a little annoyed. "There's nothing wrong with it, dude." Ugh, rude. Whatever; she let it roll off her back. Water off of a duck.

"I shoot real stuff. I'm good."

"I do, too!" He interjected. "Shoot stuff, I mean. Well, I would. If they gave me a gun." He cleared his throat, "And besides, it's not even close to the same thing, anyway. S'like..." He laughed, "Like comparing Facebook t'real games." Oh, he thought he was so clever sometimes.

".. If they gave you a gun?" That got her attention. ".. What's that supposed to mean, dude? You too trigger happy to be trusted?" Ashley wrinkled her nose. "Nothing wrong with Facebook games! It's way better than wasting away in from of a computer for other reasons."

"No!" He called out in protest, before realizing that it sounded sort of defensive. "M'just not great with the whole...aiming thing. But it's got to get better with practice, right? I keep tellin' 'em but they say they can't take the chance. S'not like I've killed anyone or anythin'."

He was through arguing about Facebook. If she wanted to waste her time on a flash animation, she was more than welcome to it. Connor knew the truth, and that was plenty for him - for now, anyway.

"Practice, huh?" That got her attention. "Need an expert to teach you how it works, huh?" An expert like her, maybe. "Maybe if you were nicer to me I'd show you the ropes."

He perked, "Would you? I mean, not like I need it much here, but it'd be nice to have some practice before I go home." He really needed to be careful about how much he gave away about his affiliations with the Home Office. Eventually, everyone at El Dorado would go home, and he didn't need a bunch of people knowing about the anomalies all over the place, did he?

"Oh, totally, dude! Bet I can have you shooting - ... Okay, maybe not like a pro, but close, in no time. I'm just that good," she was grinning to herself on the other end of the line.
