"made me happy we haven't seen DH Hogwarts in greater detail."
Really? I'd love to have seen DH Hogwarts. We could have the DA trying to destabilise Snape, Snape balancing looking loyal to Voldemort with not treating the kids too harshly, Draco wondering whether he should tell Snape where the DA are hiding... It'd be really interesting and complex, IMO.
Actually, on second thoughts, maybe I should rephrase that. I would love to see DH Hogwarts, if I had any confidence in Rowling's ability to portray it. As the rule (sadly) seems to be that the bits we aren't shown much about seem the most realistic, we may be better off left in ignorance...
"According to wiki, wit is a form of intellectual humor, and a wit is someone skilled in making witty remarks. And I thought wit simply meant intelligence, like Snape's talent with potions."In the good old days (the seventeenth century), "wit" simply did mean "intelligence", and only later acquired its modern meaning
( ... )
Even though wit didn't get the connotations of intellectual humor until later, it did have another meaning back in the day which Shakespeare got a lot of mileage out of: it was also an Elizabethan slang term for "penis." I'm sure the Ravenclaws get the joke, too.
For, um, scholarly reference - nunnery: also slang for brothel; nothing: slang for female genitalia; country matters: if it wasn't already obvious with Hamlet's talk of lying in Ophelia's lap, just focus on the first syllable of "country..."
"Sorry, but what is a diadem?" asked Ron. I had forgotten this. So what was Rowling's intention by later on making fun of Crabbe or Goyle for not knowing what it was? Showing Ron was equally beneath Harry as Crabbngoyle are beneath Draco? Or had she already forgotten about this scene when she wrote the other one?
Good call on the weird Muggle views of the liberal side of Light with Neville and Alecto - JKR once again displaying her type of paternalistic "be nice to the natives and be glad we are not them" sort of liberalism.
And again - what was she thinking - letting Dumbledore laud Harry in comparison to Voldemort because the latter didn't have friends but only minions whereas - umm? Harry shuts everybody out apart from Ron and Hermione who at this point hardly count as independent beings - Ron being useless and Hermione being scared of disagreeing with the Almighty One...
Oooh - don't get me started on Ginny and her horrifying personality/ reincarnation of Molly!
Love how Neville dismisses his injuries by pointing out that Seamus is worse since I believe in his sincerity. Btw, I still think it was a dig at Seamus.
I thought Seamus was worse because he was a half-blood.
Another glitch in V's curfew system is revealed when crowds can Apparate directly into the bar without DEs being any wiser. That's how all the students will reach Hogwarts for the battle. Why would V put useless curfew in the first place? Except for WW2 feel.
Yeah, all they need is to Apparate from house to house at night. I bet urban wizards (such as the Blacks) only Apparate or floo for regular transportation anyway - that's the only way they can live next door to Muggles while remaining so ignorant about them.
The secret passage behind Ariana's portrait is in better condition than any others we've seen with brass lamps and smooth floor. Is it DA's job or did DD use it to communicate with Aberforth? From Neville's description this passageway was created for him, but there must have been an older passage between Hogwarts and

I thought Seamus was worse because he was a half-blood.You may be right. So we get the situation in which pure-blooded Neville stands up to "teachers" much more than half-blooded Seamus (the latter wasn't one of DA leaders), but is punished less. Until Neville violated one too many laws and got seriously targeted
( ... )
I don't think the passageway was created for Neville, since imo RoR can't create new things, only transport the most suitable ones among things, which have been lost or thrown away since Hogwarts's foundation. Otherwise, why not create a new working cabinet for Draco in HBP?
Interesting. Unless the connection to the other cabinet is not something the Room can create.
Are we told the Marauders discovered the passage ending in the Hog's Head? I remember only the Honeydukes's & Shrieking Shack's ones.
We know the Marauders' Map has 7 passages. One went to Honeydukes, one to the Whomping Willow. We do not know where the other 5 led because their destination wasn't on the Map, but we know they all led to Hogsmeade. Of these 5 passages we are told Filch knew of 4 and the 5th had collapsed. But I don't think the ROR connected to one of those because they were known to the staff and were blocked.
I'm very much enjoying the image of Snape scowling and muttering as he stealthily tucks the kids into their hammocks and leaves books of useful hexes in a nice stack by the breakfast dishes.
/The walls of RoR show tapestry hangings of all Houses, except Slytherin. Very symbolic. How could JKR forget what she has written & claim Slytherins fought too? I mean, fought against V since we were shown 2 students, who enthusiastically fought for the man

Cho was a DA member, she had a coin so she received Neville's message. And the message must have specified that this was the big one, because Neville had been using the coins all year to coordinate the rebellion - I doubt Cho and the others hopped in whenever Neville organized something. The fact that Cho was among the early arrivals shows she had her coin handy, she was expecting for something to happen (maybe as soon as she heard of the Gringotts break-in?) and was planning on joining in. Cho arrives before the non-Weasley members of the Gryffindor Quidditch team. Of the known DA members who were of age the only ones not mentioned at all neither at the battle nor in the ROR are Susan, Justin and Marietta.
(BTW I recall some fans saying clearly Marietta deserved to remain scarred for life because she did not show up for the battle.)

...No. No way. They can't seriously have...
Good grief, did it ever occur to them that maybe she was scared out of her mind and just wanted to go home? Not everybody is a warrior.
