So. I have to give a book talk in an hour on a book I haven't read, which if I were doing well I would have enjoyed thoroughly and found fascinating and reported back to you all the feminist forms of thought I learned from it. Instead, I've been sleeping and working on my seasonal_spuffy, which I've already halved my big idea and my need to ( Read more... )

Brunel's a decent university; not first rank, but respected. It's sorta new, founded in the sixties, and with a technology bias, but a good range of arts subjects too - I used to know a professor of social history there, and he was certainly very good. I dunno how they feel about US degrees - they might want to see a sample of your writing perhaps. I'm not sure what 3.3GPA would translate into - they usually want a 2:1 degree for a Master's, but might well be flexible with non-UK students.

Location is Uxbridge, fairly close to Heathrow Airport (but not under the flight path) on the north west perimeter of London. It's about ninety miles from me, so I'd have to adopt you for weekends or something. ;-)

I should have sent you birthday greetings before - glad it was a tolerable one. When you're coping with depression, that's a result.

Aww, I'm sorry things are rough right now. But I'm glad you had a good birthday (happy belated!), and good luck with the school stuff! I bet you're probably in better shape than you think - a 3.3 GPA is respectable.

Oh, hon. First of all, a 3.3 is a fine GPA. I wouldn't worry too much. My undergrad GPA was even lower than that--I don't remember exactly what it was-- 3.2 something, maybe? I don't remember. A lot of programs only really look at major subject GPA, or portfolios and mission statements. And, my sister--who, like you, transferred universities a couple of times--used her mission statement as a chance to try and explain her transfers (but putting a positive spin on it--like, the adversity had taught her x, y, and z about her goals and mission). It'll be okay. And that cult TV program sounds killer. I would love that.

And I'm glad you had a good birthday! Yay! for media rooms and birthday dinners!
