Overall, I like the idea of the project. I think it has potential. Of course a lot depends on how the retooling for a younger lead goes starting with which writer they will set but going by the history of the project and the high selling price of the original spec, I think it shows a lot of promise. The one thing I'm not trilled about are the producers; not a fan. But if everything else would come together this is hopefully not a problem. If Zac is attached or not, this project is still far away with not even a writer assigned yet, so I hope we hear about a project which actually happens in a foreseeable timeframe soon.
Which brings me to AYNIK... like you, I like the project a lot and was hoping that Zac could get it ever since it popped up. I'm curious what they changed in the rewrite though esp since so many people really liked the initial draft (me included).
I remember reading about SELLING TIME when Tom Cruise and Spike Lee were supposed to do it. If I remember right, the protagonist "sells his time" to go back to the day when his girl died. That sounds a lot like IN TIME starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried. I don't know how much of it has changed since Cruise/Lee left the project. Its genre was thriller/horror.
I'll hold my excitement until the camera starts rolling, but it's amazing that Zac is being considered for a lot of "serious" movies right now.
That sounds like a real different type of movie than Zac has done with the exceptions of the movie he just finished and is currently filming. It would be nice to see if Zac gets this part.
& the still of Zac from The Paperboy is gorgeous. That's actually how I pictured Jack in the book. I still get a Leonardo DiCpario "Catch Me If You Can" vibe from the picture which isn't a bad thing in my opinion.
I just read an article saying that Warner Brothers now wants Tom Cruise for the lead in ALL YOU NEED IS KILL. Even though the protagonist is about nineteen in the original Japanese novel, they are apparently aging the charater to suit big stars like Pitt and Cruise. While I'm a huge fan of Cruise(I don't care how "crazy" he is. He's The Ultimate Leading Man. There's no one who can command screen like him.), I'm little disappointed that nowadays studios doesn't give chance to young actors. The same old actors are still dominating big movies.
yeah i think the studios are kind of screwing themselves over. i understand their trepidation since few young actors have sold a movie on their own name. but i think relying so much on old actors is a very temporary, and not always successful, fix. though i also think they can't shove someone down our throats a la taylor lautner or even ryan reynolds.
the story is great with a young actor playing the young soldier. that is a fundamental part of the plot... like the guy is a n00b and sucks so he dies and has to live the day over and over again till he gets better. idk how you rewrite the story to make that work for an older dude, especially one that looks like tom cruise. idk. it just doesn't work for me and if they do that, in my opinion it is no longer an adaption of all you need is kill.
my hope, whether zac is involved or not, is that they just bulked up the sergeant role and have sought out a big name like brad pitt or tom cruise to help the young actor carry the film. it just works better for the story lol.
I only read the book, so I have no idea how much it differs from the script. Its main plot is about an unskillful young male soldier and an unusually skilled female soldier, and I don't know how they can make the sergeant role any bigger. I can't see any huge A-list actors agreeing to play second fiddle to a young lesser name actor. And Warners needs a big star to headline this movie since they'll probably need big budget due to big alien battle scenes. Therefore, I think they'd rather change the role and script to fit Cruise or Pitt even if that means sacrificing the story. It's really sad that those "already dominant" againg big actors are now taking over roles that should go to young actors.
