Brand Quality Question: MAM

Nov 03, 2007 23:37

In terms of quality, how would you rate MAM? On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being best. Also, if could rate the other major brands (BABY, AP, others) for context, that would be great. :3

(Rating in terms of construction, fabric quality, lace quality, etc.)

Apologies if there is already such a post! m(_ _)m

MAM 7/8, Baby 9, AP 8/9, IW 10, VM 10.
they may not be quite as nice as other, bigger brands but honestly, i think their stuff is way worth the price. it's not as expensive as others and the quality is still very nice. go for it :]

MAM is good with the quality, fabric choices, etc, but (to me) they are boring compared to prints and whatnot other brands have. _But_ the pieces are of very nice cotton and the details in ruffles and pleats are cute.

Going solely in terms of quality, I'd say something like this:
MAM: 8
Baby: 8
AP: 8
Meta: 6-7
MM: 9
VM: 9
FairyW: 9
JetJ: 6-9 (this is so silly... you never know what you get)
Shot Gun Wedding: 8 (same as MAM - no prints, nothing special, but very good price-quality relation and well done basics)
ETC: 7-8
JM: 8

I'm open to arguing on these, though!

Heh, seriously, I forgot Moitié... 8-9. Or even 7-9.
I guess I wouldn't give anyone a 10...?

I think FW, ETC and JM are arguable~ for FW their winter lines are better than their spring ones but even so it's a bit of a hit-miss. Their current empire OP was velour not velveteen but the floral one was velveteen. I can vouch only for what I have, and honestly I've never seen another brand do a seamless hem/waistband where you can't see the sitches for the lace or lining (folded inside out). Plus, it's 90% wool and the only other brand I know that makes almost pure wool skirts is JM ( ... )

That's a lot of insight, this is developing into a mighty discussion! :)

I really like their cutsews and casual pieces so a 7/10. The only problem is that the buttons came loose in the wash for me and I had to resew them back. In context:

Fairywish: 10/10 (AMAZING construction: interfaced waistband, seamless hemming with sewnin lining and flocked raised print overlaid with silver emboridery)
Moitie: 9.5/10 (-0.5 for the crappy polyester they sometimes release)
Emikyu: 8/10 to 9.5/10 (depends on the line but washes well)
Innocent world: 9/10 (almost too sturdy, difficult to iron and stiff)
Victorian Maiden: 9/10 (lovely fabric, horrible lining and screenprinted not woven )
BTSSB: 8/10 (lovely woven fabric but a shade thin, makes up through lining and lace)
AP: 8/10 (plasticky but dense fabric, excellent print, slightly iffy over non-matching fabric colour and lace)
Meta: 7-8/10 (sometimes they have icky lace but I was lucky with a retro design with thick lace and fabric)
Putumayo: 6/10 (screenprint peels after wash but great stretch material)

Oh wow, thank you for such an in-depth answer! I have a question again. XDD;; In terms of matching pinks and such, which brand run closest for the typical light pink?

I'm assuming you mean the normal baby pink...

BTSSB/VM:Beth/AP have similar baby pinks but within btssb itself sometimes they use a lighter pink which has a cooler undertone. Usually if it's 'special' item with an entire line, the pink may not be exact (but for plain pinks yes) AP has 2 kinds of pinks as well, the standard baby pink as well as a brighter 'pop' pink.

Meta uses a slightly brighter peachy-er pink but it's a slight difference. IW and MM use dusty pinks with a lilacish overtone and ETC produces BOTH a dusty pink (matches perfectly) and a yellowish baby pink (still matches)

overall pinks match better than blues, trust me D: most brands produce several shades of pink anyway and as long as the undertone matches it won't clash. I've worn dusty pink socks with etc's pink before and it still works.

I own a skirt and a cardigan from mam.. I like it but it's not the best sowing, it isn't really sown straight all the time, but overall the skirt looks fine. Compared to my baby's skirt though.. it looks more home made ^^' but it was quite cheap as well so you get what you pay for ^^

Does it look like a decent lolita item, or am I better off sticking to BABY and AP? :3
