Brand Quality Question: MAM

Nov 03, 2007 23:37

In terms of quality, how would you rate MAM? On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being best. Also, if could rate the other major brands (BABY, AP, others) for context, that would be great. :3

(Rating in terms of construction, fabric quality, lace quality, etc.)

Apologies if there is already such a post! m(_ _)m

Is there anywhere online where you can buy Shotgun Wedding pieces? I haven't seen them around, and i've liked some of the stuff i've seen of theirs in the bibles.

I have that punk skirt/legwarmers in black and red which I really like <3 It seems really well made. It sits a bit funny sometimes, but I think that's because I need to lose a bit of weight off my stomach to get it flat XDDD Once it is I'm pretty sure it'll sit better :P

*coughs* Sorry to double-post, I'm just thinking someone might be able to answer my question here too :D
Does anyone have any problems with BABY zippers? As it's a hidden zip, and one of my tops (non-lolita) I bought in NZ has one and the material started to break between the zip and the top, so it's really hard to do up now as there's a hole. So I'm always super-careful with this type of zip but when the girl in the shop put it on me she didn't seem at all worried about it breaking and yanked it up full-strength ^^; Is it just my top was lower quality, and BABY zips won't break? I just want to know how careful I have to be while zipping it up... :P
Thanks if anyone can give me an answer!

you can try waxing the zip for a smoother pull. If it's just prone to being stuck at heavy fabric gathers, just pinch the fabric tightly and pull. Worse comes to worst, you can always change the zip (which is better than it breaking and fraying imho)

most brands use invisible zips which break more easily. I usually add a 'hook' at the top to make it easier to pull but so far I haven't had any problems with baby.

I have a hook at the top of mine, I can just never do it up when putting it on myself. I wasn't sure if I should get a friend to put it on to be gentler with it, but I think it should be okay just taking it on and off, etc...*crosses fingers*
I might think about waxing it though, just to make it smoother to do up around the waistband...
Thanks!

I think MAM is about a 7/10. They don't put lining in their dresses but instead include a flimsy petticoat, which doesn't have any tulle. It says it's made in Japan. The stitching can be a bit wonky on the inside.

Other brands:
Moi-meme-Moite: 9.9/10 (nobody is perfectXD)
Angelic Pretty: 8/10 (doesn't wash well but good fabrics and linings)
Metamorphose: 8.5/10 (washes well, sturdy fabric)
Baby: 8.5/10 (good materials and construction)
Heart-E: 8/10 (sturdy construction on most items, but very simple designs)
Putumayo: 7.5/10 (prints wash off eventually, but other items durable)

Thank you! One more question, though. Who is best in terms of lace? Design, and especially comfort-wise. I can wear lolita to work, but I certainly don't want to be itching all day! XDD;;
