I finally got out for a good walk down back yesterday. Dave and I took the dogs down to the creek and to the lake. There was a lot of of washout from the last flood into the lake. Lots of pictures: ( Read more... )

Wow - that is an impressive amount of damage. I wonder if the ice patterns are made by the movement of the water, combined with some freezing and thawing?

It must be that - natural things like wind, freezing and thawing etc... but it happened in an unusual way this time.

wind and ice and theice sheet rocking with the moon
kind of like the rip tide
can really trash the shoreline
at the lake if rolled it up and lifted it
it was sheer luck it didn't pull it off

it did more damage if the ground had started to thaw
