I have seen indian ghost pipe in past years but never as many as this year. I always thought it was a fungus before. Very cool. Now I'm watching to see if they get seed pods next.
The ghost pipes are such weird plants. I think they look like eyeballs on a stalk. Your pictures of the trails have the same impact on me. I am full of imagination about what could happen when I look at them.
The pictures and the trail look so beautiful! The Ghost Pipes are something I saw in the mountains over in my region, they looked SLIGHTLY different.... they had black fringes to the 'petals' and a pink wet nodule that looked like pair of licked lips in the center... I just assumed they were a fungus! They look ALIEN that's for sure!
I always thought I was seeing a fungus when I would see them before. Very cool that they are a plant without chlorophyll - but they need a fungus to live. :-)
