I went to high school with them, a grade below them. They beat me for kewl parts in the Spring musical, and sang them with lovely highly-trained voices. A few years ago, I was astonished to see "Chris and Meredith Thompson: folk duo" on the bill for a First Night. Could it be the twins? It was, and their voices had gotten earthier, more natural, simpler. I loved their set so much, I stuck around for the second show. And have been eagerly going to their close-to-me shows ever since. They are on a first-name basis with both of my lovers now, from me bringing them to concerts so often.

that assistant professors have to do now and then is work in
admissions, reading applicant folders with an actual
admissions officer. I enjoyed that (so the department made
me stop, in some stupid political war with the college of
arts and sciences, but never mind).
One pair of folders I got to read were Chris and Meredith's.
It's not as if they were going to be rejected, but the
admissions officer wanted to put them in the (large) pile of
people who would be perfectly fine at Cornell but that we
didn't exactly have to accept. Somehow the officer ( ... )
