Help! Recipe question.

Oct 28, 2005 12:30

Okay, crap. I have everything that the sugar cookie recipe calls for except baking powder. I feel like a real nerd, because I tossed out an unopened tin of it when we moved, because I'd never used it. *sigh* I have baking soda, but have no idea if this might be an acceptable substitution ... Help?

recipe, halloween

Thank you. I'm not sure if that will work, though, because there isn't really any liquid in the recipe to decrease the volume of to compensate ... Hrm.

Google says you can't. Baking soda doesn't have the acids that powder does. You have to add cream of tartar and possibly a little cornstarch to the soda to get the same thing.

Good luck.

Aw, boogers. I guess I won't be baking anything before I see the chiro, then. If it costs, like, the change I have left in my change purse, maybe I can pick some up baking powder on the way home. Oy.

This sure is reinforcement for my "never throw anything away" neurosis!

They are two totally different things....aren't they?

Yeah. They're both used for leavening, but apparently one has acid and one doesn't. I solved the problem, though: I called my mommy, and she's bringing some.

I look forward to being a grown-up someday.
