My aunt and uncle are in town for the holidays. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. It's good because they take some of the heat off of me and Ma when it comes for caring for Nana. And, even though he skeeved me out a lot when I was younger, I actually get along pretty well with my uncle now. I swear, he seems a lot easier to get along ( Read more... )

I've had that burr under my saddle ever since. I'm thinking about it again this year: escaping the whole family thing with all it's potential for drama. But, my options are few. Damn, I need a new car; it's hard to be a Turkey Day refugee without wheels.

I was in therapy today hashing out some of the stuff I said the other day, about how I'm dreading a little bit going home do run thanksgiving and deal with family stuff. And my therapist said, "Well, have you considered doing something else for Thanksgiving?" It was one of those "I know those words, but not in that order" moments.

I don't think I did a very good job communicating to him that, despite the worries I have, I'm still going to have fun and get along 90% of the time. It's a good thing I don't work in any kind of communications field.

Holidays with my family are a coin toss. It seems to go, loosely, good-bad-good-bad by years. Last year kind of sucked, so perhaps the odds are good for this year, or perhaps not. However, I don't mean to give the impression that there will be anything exceptionally miserable, like drunken fist-fights or the like. There's not likely to be anything THAT heavy. Most of the possible drama has been going on for years, and wouldn't necessarily prevent me from enjoying myself 90% of the time, as you suggested.

It's just that I'm not particularly looking forward to it this year.
