Characters: Gai, Huo Date/Time: Wednesday Location: The Park Rating: ...PG right now, may go up to PG-13 if Huo starts using innuendo Summary: Gai gives Huo a lesson in self-defense and Dynamic movements.
It was a hopeless endeavor, Huo knew so from the get-go; it was unreasonable to hope that Gai would succeed where several others have failed and be able to drill any kind of combat skills into him. Yet not to try, even to little avail, was shameful - disrespectful to all those who fought on Captain Planet and Frost Mountain, to Sniper who had had to protect him in the initial attack and to the warriors who went forward into the rescue operation while he remained safely behind. He could never be of help, but perhaps could become less of a burden... and even to be abused a while by Gai, even pointlessly, was to do something.Something

Gai had lower expectactions for Huo. He didn't seem to have any special abilities, and that put him in the same category as Genius and Rick, as far as Gai's students go. At the same time, though, Huo had been actively involved in the aftermath, and not in the running-away way of many civilians.
"Huo! Of course! I enjoy teaching very much! And it is good to help a friend to be better equipped for life and whatever they may run into!" Gai gave Huo a thumbs-up. "We will start with stretches, unless you have already stretched? Or if you had something you would prefer."
Gai had enough enthusiasm for much more than two men; Huo supposed that he should be grateful for that, although to be truthful also a little bit nervous. Perhaps even a lot nervous. Five hundred push-ups, he remembered, wondering if a man thus capable could even understand the concept of a man who could hardly manage five. I am not weak, he reminded himself, only unskilled. And he prided himself on his ability to learn.
"Stretches?" he frowned a little. "Is this any specific kind of stretching?" None of his previous attempts had included stretching. Clearly Gai's methods were unique. Perhaps something to do with being a ninja.
Five hundred push-ups... and five hundred push-ins. Gai tried to forget that conversation often and as a result he remembered way too much. Sometimes he wondered by people liked teasing him so much, but then again he would have to admit that he had fun when he had chances to tease. It was probably a friendship thing

Thankfully, just at the moment, push-ins were not on Huo's mind; although Gai did have that effect on people, impossible to ignore for very long. And part of Huo could not help but hope that he would also get some casual conversation out of this encounter, some happier exchange. He needed it as surely as he needed the instruction.
"Ah, I understand." He watched for a moment, then followed Gai's lead - brief awkwardness quickly overcome by natural grace and refinement. He knew the structure of the skeleton and muscles and understood what it was that he was doing to his own body, though it was the first time that he conceived of doing such a thing as an organized routine. Very clever. New knowledge got a small smile out of him.
He considered Gai's question a moment. "Reasonably," he answered, and his smile remained plain though his eyes gleamed a little as he continued. "Or at least, no one has ever commented to the contrary." Gai really did have that effect on people.
