Man, conversations between Gai and your characters...spandexisyouthOctober 19 2011, 07:04:24 UTC
He saw the small smile and beamed in reply. It was good to see Huo relax a little. While Gai knew the other man was capable of it, he hadn't seen something like that on Huo in quite a while. Not since things had gotten more serious in the Sphere.
"So you have had other trainers th--" Gai stopped mid-sentence as it dawned on him what Huo meant. He coughed, coloring, trying to cover up for catching it. "That you can remember! Perhaps they have! Unless you have someone here, that does not count!"
He quickly went into toe-touches. Those at least hid his face. "Now we stretch backs and calves! Try to touch your toes! Fifteen times!" Why was it so easy to fluster him? Gai made a mental note never to have dinner or any sort of outing, really, with just Huo and Bell. Kakashi. He needed to remember that his partner's name was Kakashi. "After that is lunges for our hamstrings!" This he also demonstrated, glancing at Huo to make sure they were being done correctly but trying not to meet the other man's eyes quite yet.

Gai's response - which was rather the one that he had anticipated - made Huo's smile widen minutely. It was good to allow himself that moment's humor, despite everything, a breath of fresh air that he had only realized how urgently he needed once it was taken. There was little practical sense in him being here, either way - he may as well take what he could get, for however brief an hour.
"Does it not?" he inquired innocently, still following Gai's demonstration of the more complex exercises. These were somewhat harder - he was agile enough, but markedly slower than the other man, and a little self-conscious about it. To distract from that slight discomfort, he spoke on. "In this manner of training, I'm afraid that I am a complete novice. But there are other manners, of course."
"It does not because then you cannot say that no one has complained! All you can say is that you cannot remember anyone complaining!" Innocent. Right. Huo was as innocent as Bell, and that was just about as guilty as they came.
Realizing that he was short-changing Huo on the lesson Gai slowed down. Just because the other man could fluster him didn't mean he could afford to skip things. Huo still deserved the lesson.
"I am not sure that I wish to know what manners you speak about. Except metaphors. You are very good at those." There couldn't be any sort of sex training, right? Or innuendo? For all Gai knew, there very well could be, and Huo and Bell had both gone to that school too. "As far as this manner goes, I think we will work on self-defense measures, if that is fine with you? I am not sure that teaching you offensive tactics would suit you yet."
The slower pace was appreciated. Huo put effort into the exercises, making sure to move properly and with attention, to bend and stretch as far as he could. It was not the simple joy of farming, but with the body occupied, the mind was sometimes mercifully silenced.
"You may say that metaphors are my trade, as this is yours," he replied. now truly innocent, but amused to think of what Gai might make of it with his suspicion roused. Thisback and forth, though perhaps somewhat unkind to his respected teacher, did help him keep from recoiling at the thought of what lay ahead of them. "Self-defense measures will probably yield better results," he answered with a nod, looking a little troubled. After all, by 'better' he actually meant 'not quite as disastrous'.
"How would metaphors be a trade? Do you confuse people and then... profit from that somehow? Or do you teach a class? I do not think you would be able to refrain from teasing long enough to teach a class." His voice was wry, and there might have been the smallest bit of petulance to it. One day he would come out on top after a conversation with Huo. And on second thought, that first thought was a bit too dirty for his taste.
At least he could nod to Huo's latter statement. "It is easier if you are not trying to think of what you could do offensively. More options can mean more hesitation in a crucial moment. So! We can work first on what areas to strike to get away, and then dodges?"
