Characters: Gai, Huo Date/Time: Wednesday Location: The Park Rating: ...PG right now, may go up to PG-13 if Huo starts using innuendo Summary: Gai gives Huo a lesson in self-defense and Dynamic movements.
"Your lack of faith in my abilities is disheartening." Now Huo was grinning, although still it was a soft expression. He did not want to push Gai too far, which demanded a certain balance. It was good, though, flashing his wits without any bearing on matters of life and death. Gai was almost too ideal a target.
"I shall defer to your judgment in this." He was quite serious when it came to the real training, though, giving a slight bow Gai's way. "A wise and experienced teacher knows the student's need better than the student himself." He thankfully could refrain from teasing long enough to give an honest compliment.
If he could think of a way to stop being a target, he would. As it was, Gai seemed to have a blinking neon sign over his head that said 'tease me.' Then again, it had gotten him a few friends that he might not have otherwise had, so Gai would deal. "It is merely observation. You would spend a great deal of time teasing and not as long instructing, I think." But Gai was fine now.
Gai bowed back. "I thank you. So first! The vulnerabilities!" Gai tapped his cheek, pointing at his eyes. "The most vulnerable body part of any person is their eyes, and most will drop anything to protect them. Having one's eyes ripped out is a strong fear-inducer." He stepped close to Huo, close enough that it might feel too close. "Anyone in arm range is in eyeball range. Go ahead and reach up, as if you were going to claw at my eyes. ...Please do not do so, though."
For all that he was not truly a stranger to battle and violence, Huo could not help but find the switch from talking about teasing to talking about ripping eyeballs out to be a little unnerving. That too showed a warrior's mettle, he supposed, looking up at Gai's eyes. He was perfectly well aware that even if he did try his hardest, he would not stand a chance of truly harming the ninja, and still...
He knew how an eyeball was built. He could imagine it quite well, the blood and gooey tissue... he swallowed.
"Since I must..."
His nervousness was apparent in the awkward, too slow gesture, raising his hand with fingers curled to claw, nor did his stance shift to better balance or prepare himself. Gai had his task cut out for him, indeed.
It was easy for Gai to switch, but he was a fighter. Maybe he was asking a bit too much of Huo. Gai looked at Huo and reconsidered before shaking his head. "This is not something you are ready for, is it." Huo wasn't standing right, but even more, he was focused on the gore of what the act would be instead of what the urgency of the moment would be.
"Let us instead try something else. Dodging and getting away. If you would prefer that? I will not push you to learn something that you are not comfortable learning."
It was not surprising that Gai could easily read his reaction. Slightly embarrassed, but maintaining his focus still, Huo nodded, grateful. He appreciated Gai's patience; never before slow to catch on a lesson, himself, he understood the frustration of watching another fumble at what seemed basic and natural.
This was clearly going to be different from his usual learning experiences.
"I am unsure if my comfort should be an issue," he said with a shake of his head, equally understanding that a true enemy would be anything but patient with him. "Although it is probable that I will be getting away more than I will be fighting."
