The cabin for Natty Narwhal, midday. Please bother him. scars_n_cards October 12 2010, 20:12:12 UTC
The sun was shining, birds were singing, the breeze carried the smell of wildflowers and perhaps even some ripening fruits, and fluffy white clouds floated over a deep blue sky.

Ugh.

Blackjack rolled over, trying to pull the thin camp-provided pillow over his ears, and ultimately meeting with no success. Groaning, he sat up and reached for a pack of cigarettes. Ugh. This--this would never do. No privacy, no anything...true, he didn't want to be in the hurricane, either, but "roughing it" was unacceptable.

He lit his cigarette and took a drag, woozily looking over the cabin. It looked like a few people were there already--he could see their things--but he couldn't see anyone else, at least not yet. Hm. Maybe he could go back to sleep after all.

And maybe someone would walk through the door at just that moment, making it that much harder to turn over and ignore the world. It was not a particularly loud entrance but it did let in an obnoxious amount of light before the door blocked it out once more as it shut with a THUNKclick.

"G'morning, sunshine." Amusement was apparent in Gene's voice as he caught sight of the man sitting up in bed. He could understand sleeping in, but it was impressive that someone would manage to last this long in their current boarding situation.

Blackjack winced and squinted in the light, and blinked owlishly at the person entering--until the dark silhouette resolved itself into the shape of...a man he didn't know. Fine.

And then he spoke. Sunshine. Blackjack, in response, arched an eyebrow and gave him a look, then exhaled a small cloud of smoke. "It's too damn early." His voice was even still raspy from sleep, though undoubtedly the cigarette only aggravated it.

When the acrid scent of the smoke hit his senses, a strange mixture of craving and aversion stirred in the pit of Gene's stomach. That wasn't unusual: it had been like that ever since he had received the memory full of ash. In the back of his mind he absently noted that it might be a good idea to find a way to get his nic-fix without smoke being involved.

The arched brow received a matching one in turn, paired with a smirk. "I think it's nearly one," he said, not weighing in on whether he thought it was early or not. He doubted this guy particularly cared. Strolling over to the bunk where he had tossed his stuff, Gene started rummaging around.

"Damnit, don't tell me I forgot to pack the cards..." he muttered to himself as he sifted through his duffle bag. As convenient as the Wilderness was for storm relief, he could tell it would get boring quick without a few diversions. He had hoped to crash in the mess hall for a bit and wrangle a couple of takers for a game of poker, but it seemed like his plans were destined to be derailed.

Outside cabin Jaunty Jackalope. Feel free to bother. blacklegcook October 12 2010, 20:42:07 UTC
Even down in the Wilderness the loud rumbles of the storm could be heard above. He'd just made it down to the lower level before the full storm had hit. Wet blond strands plastered themselves over the left side of his face and his clothes were soaked through and stuck to his skin oddly.

He'd helped out the farm bring down as much as possible and had finally found the cabin he'd been assigned to. Compared to the shitty-insulation in the section 1 houses, this wasn't so bad. Surrounded by the smell of wood and a storm raging above, it definitely felt nostalgic even without proper memories.

All his shit was finally packed into the cabin and a quick glance around showed he was the first one here. Cookbooks were strewn onto his bed, which he left to leaf through later. For now he stood at the porch, cigarette between lips and watched through half-lidded eyes at activity going around.

Having just fought his way through the storm to the elevator, Rain was thoroughly drenched, his normally-spiky hair hanging limply around his face and dripping onto his shoulders, and his shoes making faint squishing sounds with each step he took. He could have headed down to the Wilderness earlier, but he'd been helping board up the last of what needed boarding in the Bazaar ( ... )

"Oh!" Chivalry had been so far into his own thoughts that the sniffing at his pants came as a surprise. "...A dog?" What ashes had gathered on his cigarette were flicked far away from where the dog stood; no need to burn the little fellow.

He looked up at the man's approach. One hand patted the top of the dog's head kindly enough before finding it's way back into a pocket. "Yo! You one of my bunk-mates?" He'd be lying if he wasn't disappointed that it hadn't been a woman, but there wasn't much he could do about the shitty-cabin choices.

Taichou leaned into the head-pat and then sat at the blond man's feet, his tail wagging from side to side and thumping against the porch, as Rain walked up.

"It seems that way," he responded simply, taking a moment to scrutinize the other equally-drenched man. No one he'd ever met before, he was fairly certain, but at least he didn't seem to mind the dog. Of course, if they were going to be spending the next few days sharing living quarters, introductions were probably in order. He bowed. "My name is Rain."

And wanting nothing more at that moment then to change into some dry clothes, Rain turned to the cabin door, only to stop and scowl at it (or rather, the sign on it) in puzzlement. "...Jackalope?"

wandering the grounds near the lake; feel free to interrupt forgotmyforge October 12 2010, 23:03:03 UTC
This is not what Flame had thought of when someone had mentioned camp. She'd expected tents, or blankets slung over tree branches, hunting and fishing and being refugees. But this was tame. It was a place people came for fun, she'd been told.

And there was no reason not to enjoy that. She was currently inspecting the trees along the shoreline, trying to decide which one would be best to take an afternoon nap under, and humming quite cheerily under her breath.

Sky was, at that moment, taking a moment to rest after having spent the past few days helping evacuate the Tree. He hadn't been paying much attention to the journals- not that he'd had much time to, anyway- and hoped that everyone was down here and safe.

He sat on the lake dock, his boots and socks off, one bare foot dangling in the water. He'd been surprised that it was still summer-like here, but that could only help if they were trapped down here a while.

Sky's thoughts were elsewhere, however. The evacuation had been a distraction from thinking about Ghost, and imagining how he'd react, worrying if Blood was down there and safe and not insisting on helping the Guard, complaining the whole time, wondering if he really was gone or if he should hold onto the tiny bit of hope that he'd just rehatch in a few days... like he always had...

Sky took in a deep breath, splashing with his foot and wondering where Inara was. He spotted someone unfamiliar wandering on the lake shore and gave her a small wave.

Her eyes caught the movement of another person, and she smiled and waved back, making her way over slowly to meet them. She'd met so many people in the last few days that their names were beginning to blur together, but she wasn't tired of it yet. Each person was a possible puzzle piece, like Nova had said. And even if they didn't remind her of home, she still liked being around others.

"I think you have a good idea," she said when she was close enough to speak comfortably. Dangling one's feet in the water seemed like a relaxing prospect.

"It is relaxing," Sky admitted, forcing himself to be social. It was better than brooding, he reminded himself, better than his thoughts wandering to Ghost and what it would be like if Inara disappeared tomorrow-

Stop it. Just STOP IT.

"I'm a member of the Watch, so I've spent the past few days helping the evacuation. I'll take a break when I can get it, and this seemed like a nice place."

on the edges of the camp, wherever flowers are. interrupt plz? pinkmoonrabbit October 13 2010, 04:45:47 UTC
Sailormoon couldn't remember camp. Nothing felt familiar at all. Regardless, camping out in the woods was something new and exciting. And so Sailormoon found herself out in the flowers, collecting all the new flowers in the Wilderness. Some felt familiar. Others did not. But all together, they smelled wonderful! Surely they would brighten up the place. And she could always put some in her hair, too.

There was a very good chance that Kid wasn't familiar with camps either, though in a strange way, there was the slightest bit of familiarity in the idyllic outdoors. He stood on the edge of a field of flowers, leaning against a tree, wishing he had a cigarette at that very moment. Alas, he had gotten a job, but that went un-worked with the sudden emergency evacuation. Not working meant not getting paid, and not getting paid meant no extra money for cigarettes and booze.

Oh well. He could wait.

He noticed a little girl collecting flowers not far away. The scene was hugely contrasted with the sense of urgency that had permeated the evacuation. When he thought she might've been looking in his general direction, he raised one hand in a small wave. "Hello."

She looked up and grinned, a bunch of daisies, black-eyed susans, and some dandelions gathered in her hands. She didn't recognize Kid, but that didn't mean she wasn't going to extend a hand of friendship.

She stood up and offered a curtsy with her candy-striped red and white skirt, being careful not to lose her wildflower bouquet. "Hi ♥"

She seemed like a polite kid. He nodded in response. If he had a cigarette, he would have put it out, but since he didn't, he stood there, not knowing what else to do with his hands now that he'd waved.

"My name is Kid."

~Edgy Eft~, locked to Thalassa and Amurui coughcoughshank October 14 2010, 04:21:46 UTC
[Daitou found this wilderness both familiar and strange, a contrast that was a little disconcerting. Sharing living quarters like this seemed perfectly sensible, but, much as they had in temporary housing, the bunk beds were novel. There was plenty of unused floor space for rolling out a sleeping mat on - and then you could roll them up and have space during the day.

Though, given how bad everyone here seemed to be about keeping floors clean...

But he had managed to find a cabin with space for both him and his little sister, and was looking forward to who else would be sharing with them while they stayed here - it would be interesting to get to know new people.]

[She was sitting on her bunk, shuffling cards from hand to hand. She glanced up at Daitou and wondered for a moment if he wanted to play "pick a card" again. She had asked him to play innumerable times since she had first found the book of tricks and a deck of cards, and she had inflicted the trick on just about anyone who would play along.

She smiled, deftly shuffling the cards together. She liked it here in the camp- it was warm and fun! The food was pretty good, and everyone was down here. She might even put on a magic show! That would be fun.]

[The gray-haired teen stepped inside the cabin, looking around with a curious expression. He had finally moved down to the Wilderness just as the storm up there was really getting bad, and he had grabbed his book, his journal and some other things before collapsing his hovel to make sure it didn't blow away.

Seeing Thalassa and Daitou, the boy couldn't remember if he'd seen any of them before, but figured that they would remind him if that was the case. Dumping his things on a free bed - the bunk beds were confusing, but he got the general idea of them - he then seemed rather lost at what to do.]

[Daitou immediately perks up at the sight of someone new - another kid, too. Well, relatively speaking. His age, though. He gives the new kid a wave and a grin.]
